Sat night lamping

Recommended Posts

Gaz came down to visit this weekend,....so as usual we headed out owht the lamp. We had planned a lamp and follwong day ferret session, but sunday went to pot, luckily we had a goo run on the lamp.

Took Flyn, and young Coco out who impressed me when i saw her run in Nov. Well Flyn needed a run and i didnt know if her would be like a loon or if he had truely settled down. towards the end of last year, he had come on leaps and bounds, but Ive been disappointed in him a little now tia is back and running again, she puts him to shame a little.........but it doest take the fact away fromn flyn that he is a handy dog day or night. :D .........as he proved!!

Well no wind, but dark enough against the street lit sky  .......first few fields not holding many rabbits, BUT first 4 runs, 4 rabbits accounted for and things were looking good!

As about another 5 runs between the two dogs, Flyn took another 2 rabbits and that was it, all the fileds done.

As ever all Flyns catches were along the hedgeline.......but well worked and retrieved. He took a knock at one point that stopped him dead in the cover........and the rabbit was making good its escape, however he got himself together, got back on it and made the catch :clapping:

Anyway, resting him now after a split stop pad on the shale and agash across his face which i think was the wire he must of hit that stopped him dead! His still keen though which is alwasy good ;)

Cheers Gaz.........we done alot of walking :D

Sire - Border collie

His small, light, not that fast, but persistent :D

Flyn looks to have developed into a nice sort of mooching type dog Rob........& really grown 'into' himself from when i saw him as a puppy........I've seen a few dogs in the last 3 or 4 months who seem to make 90% of their catches up by the hedge........It might not look as spectacular as the 'smash & grab merchant'........ But I must admit though it seems more productive........Nice one! :clapper:;)

Hey up D.C, your name came up in conversation the other day :boogie: ....all good i hasten to add!

Flyn has come on OK....and at 3 years old, thats a good thing too.... as he was taking his time :laugh:

I do like a "smash and grab". Clean catches keep the dogs running longer in my books. Up and down hedgerows tires the dogs quick if they dont wisen up to it and most of the dog injuries i encounter are alwasy from this type of running  ...........However, it is productive and a dog that wont do it will leave more rabbits that are that bit more lamp shy!!!! :wallbash:

ah......considerations considerations!! Do you keep a fast dog for killer strikes but picking up speed related injuries......

....or do you run a slower robust lurcher and hope it withstands the battering they put them selves through :whistling:

must have a beer one day and talk about it :drink:
