Lost Generation 93
I saw today in the CMW that Colonel Ted Walsh died recently after a long illness, a sad end for a brave man and a superb sportsman. I knew him slightly in the late 70's / early 's and I think that Lurchers and Longdogs is still the best book on the lurcher as well as being the first and it's a book that brought huge numbers of people into the sport. Rest in peace Ted.. Quote Link to post

Rest in peace Ted.. Yes......i agree entirely..........Lurchers and Longdogs is one of the best lurcher books ever written. I never met the man but i respected and supported his love and knowledge of running dogs and sight hounds. He will be sadly missed. Rolfe. Quote Link to post

Rest in peace Ted.. Phil Drabble,Ted Walsh;theirs' were the books that helped set me on the road !Met TW at a show back when i was a shy lad.My Mum ,bless her ,had knowing that he was judging ,pinched my copy of lurchers and longdogs from my room .Cunningly engaging him in conversation about her whippet ,in a move worthy of Paul Daniels(who he ?you youngsters ask )she produced the book and had him sign it.Apparently he commented that it was a very early copy and was really pleased that it showed evidence of being read over and over again! . Ossie 11
http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...mp;#entry406104 i was working at his daughter's house at the time he died. never got to meet him unfortunately, but myself & a friend attended the Service of Rememberance, with our lurchers. 20-odd running dogs in the church, and not a sqeak out of any of them. as we were going in some incredibly posh bloke said to us "are those lurchers? ugly things... my labrador is so much better looking"... dogfox 0
I had the pleasure of knowing Ted Walsh through the wippet coursing club,of which he and I were members. He took some lovely photos of the dogs coursing and he loved all types of field sports. He saw the sport in some of it best times.
