Anyone ever read any of Phil Drabble's books?

I found an old copy of one of his books today in a bookshop for £3 so I set about reading it while the OH was in Halfords drooling over spanners or whatever it is you men folks get up to when your in there  :11: :11:

I got about half way through he was in there that bloody long, but it was a really good book, chapter on lurchers as well as foxhounds, much more enjoyable to read than Plummer and it gives a glimpse back into the days when hunting wasnt so "frowned upon" as it is today.

Anyone know if the auld fella is still with us?

I've got an old copy of 'A weasel in my meatsafe'. I've read it over and over again, cracking book about some of the animals he's had throughout his life.

It's the only one of his I've read, but if they're all as good as that one then you won't go wrong!

Yes Charlie,Phil Drabble is still alive, i have'nt seen him in the village lately tho. He has a beautiful cottage and 90 acres of woodland just outside the village, which he turned into an animal sanctuary. He also has a Heronry, which is not popular with some of the locals. I have an original and signed copy of "My Beloved Wilderness.

I have allways though that Phil Drabble was a very interesting character. In his books he shows great interest and inquisitive tendencies towards hunting and the original working purpose of dogs, but at the same time he loves nature and in the book "a dogs life" there is pictures of his dogs with tame badgers and foxes, including one of his whippet x with a fox cub, so I think he must prefer the conservative side of hunting, I reckon for some people like him, hunting must be a two sided coin, they love to see the dogs doing what they were bred to do, but they also love to see the wildlife in its natural habitat, must be a real conflict of interests.

You've summed the man up to a tee :good: I have all his books, He alway's gives an accurate view and descriptive account of his life and interests.

His early works are the most interesting, with accounts of bull terrier's, flapping tracks, whippet racing ratting and ferreting as a boy. He loved Lurchers, but also kept GSP's
