Shotgun choice help

Recommended Posts

Fired the 525 and 682 not the other. But my choice would still be out of these 2 and almost certainly the Beretta. Both are good and both will perform well and hold their value, although I don't like 30" barrels, I stick to 28 on the whole.

Beretta are currently the biggest shotgun manufacturer in the world and also own many other shotgun and rifle brands.

Browning are now owned by Miroku, strange though it may seem this has helped the brand and their guns are good, but even stranger perhaps I prefer the Miroku brand to Browning.

Deker ,

sorry to nit pick but isnt Miroku owned by Browning?

please correct me if im wrong.

i agree i prefer the Miroku to the Brownings even though they are the same company. i shoot a MK38 grade 5.

thanks

Thanks guys. I am leaning towards the 525 as its the only one I've actually shot and I liked it. I was being swayed by the cynergy looks and pr machine I have to say but I am reluctant to purchase any gun unless I've actually shot it!

Have you tried the cynergy?

In regards to the 525, any advice on model? I liked the sporter I handled in the shop but can't remember whhch one I shot at the clay ground.!!

thanks

I think you gave yourself the answer there mate, if you have used the 525 and liked it why look at anything else. Just my opinion. basil.

Well, I obviously I think not, I think the Japs bought (saved) the Yanks. But I'm not going to shout too loud because you could always be right. Someone confirm this one way or another please!!

EDIT....Just done a bit more digging..from Browing website FAQ...

1977

90% of Browning Arms Company outstanding stock was purchased by FN and Miroku.

Arghhh. Just shot 50 with 525 sporter and liked it. My only concern was that to get my cheek bone resting correctly on the comb just didn't feel spot on, felt like the comb needed raising, is this possible? To be honest though I may just have not been holding right! Still felt good and got 40 out of 50 which I think is ok for a newbie! Will try the beretta on Wednesday.

Thanks again all

you seem unhappy that you liked it!, the comb can be raised in a few ways depending on how much it needs raising, it can range from stick on rubber of different thicknesses to having a full blown adjustable stock. but as you say it may be just mounting trouble.

i hope you get on well with the beretta on wednesday and come to a good decision, the beretta may well do wonders for you and youll soon forget the 525.

thanks

the 'arghhhh' referred to the fact that all posts in this thread were giving the 525 the thumbs up but trev someone cane along and said the beretta was better. I just wanted to name my decision and purchase you see and now j have to try the beretta on Wednesday !

What about the silver pigeon anyone? Compared to the 525?

Oh, and the instructor at the ground, who liked the 525, said the only thing he didn't like on the 525 was the monoblock and he prefered the 425.

Thanks again everyone

You can go on forever like this, there are lots of guns out there and people will always have their preferences for one reason or another. Just because someone favours a make or model it doesn't mean that will be right for you.

The 525 is a very good gun, the 682 is a very good gun (but never been a great fan of the engraving) but now you bring up Mr Berettas Silver Pigeon! I think it is the Mk5 or is it the Mk6 we are up to now? I have to think back, and don't shout at me if I'm wrong, but I think it was the Mk3 that experienced some level of grief with the finish in the area of the action, other than this, another excellent range, primarily based on the 686! You will not go wrong with any of these, so..the simple answer is to buy the one that fits you best!

I favour the Berettas because I have a 686SS and a 391, and used to have an excellent 303. So it's not really surprising is it that I should suggest you choose a Beretta! :whistling:
