Guest whippet
Think about the noise a hunt makes, all those horses, people, dogs barking and horns blowing. A big cat would hear them miles away and just avoid them.
Guest Nightwalker
I used to have a big tiger-stripped brindle dog that generated a number of big-cat reports when people saw him moving about through reeds and long-grass
byron 1,190
Theres been a few sitings around us in recent times .What i cant understand is why the many hound packs never report treeing one or seeing one break cover. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> thats what i used to think but why should they .no one likes any tom mick or harry mooching about .how often have you caught a feral moggie unawares they will ninety odd percent of the time see hear you etc. and be gone UNSEEN and even if there out in the open will flatten themselves down to nothing if they dont think they have been seen in ploughing short grass crops etc these big cats be it leopard/puma panther whatever will have more about them then your run of the mill grannie mary;s tiddles.how often do you go out looking up in trees? in east africa as you decend the forests of lake nakuru you have your best chance of seeing leopard laid up in the canopy how many lads on this site have ever seen foxes up trees i have on three ocasions first time i would have gone right under neath it but for some unknown reason it decided to vacate and i am talking twenty odd foot up.like simoman said alot of people ridicule you so whats the point i no what i have seen and thats good enough for me i will end on this in my area as with the majority of this country badgers are as common as dog sxit right up to the edges of towns the next urbanised mammal ?but how many people have seen a live one.think about it

Guest knocavoeboy
i heard a good way to see one is to walk about singing hakun ma tatta. if anything like in the lion king they are sure to join in. go through the links i put up. its very logical and proable they are out there it well known many people had them as pets totally unregulated then when laws changed turned them loose. hounds woudln not scent one up trees superior intelligence to any creature we have here. plus they cover much greater range than nearly any other mammal in our neck of woods. just rember if you see one. here kitty kitty will not work!! :11:
Guest HAWKEYE
I live in a place where within 10 mins of literally the middle of nowhere. Not in the countryside or the woods I mean absolutley nothing for miles around. I HAVE PERMISSION for lamping on a farm past newcastleton in the scottish borders..look at a map, its total desolated spaces, thick pine woods etc. just like canada or the american forests. I have know this farmer since I was 5 years old. I know him to be a man of honesty and integrity, A real family man. I would trust him complicity. He is a wildfowling lad and a friend of my father. In winter 2000, he was feeding his stock on his quad when a large pair of eyes sat 100 -150 yds in front of him and a huge tail swishing around behind it. he assumed it was a stray dog and revved the throttle to scare it away ... his son had a hand held tracer type beam and they picked it up in the light. The field was a fell side enclosure with a drystone wall and deer fence on top of it..it was around a furher 200 yds further than they were from the eyes..He sat and said to me that it covered the ground and sprung over the fence in 1 leap in under 5seconds..what dog can do that???? :search: it had been feeding on a sheeps carcass when they disturbed it..If he said he saw a panther That is good enough for me to believe they are here.
