nuttaul stuff

Allthe names mentioned are puppy peddlars simple well known fact,do they work there dogs more than others with old Nuttal lines?I doubt with the amount of dogs mentioned its a impossibility.I would like to see a dog that weighs 20-25Ib 14+tts thats spannable when in condition.Any pics? The weight has to be somewhere. If someone can prove this then i d be interested to see it.Oh and nothing wrong with 12" terriers Rio its the 10" short coupled wee things that i can t imagine being of any use as a digging dog against a big angry fox in a big burrow with big tubes.I ve seen a ferret bolt a fox once too.

He is a smooth chocolate bullheaded dog and is 14 and a half inch and around 21/22 pound fit.

Nice terrier shane but the original post was about 14 1/2 inch 21-22 pound when fit?3 Ib is a good difference in weight in a terrier i would still be interested in seeing a adult dog of that weight with someone spanning it. my guess is he ll grow into that head and when he s about 14months you may find he ll not be as easily spanned. However he s a dog built for the job very nice

My friend and I went to buy a bitch pup from Brian a few weeks back [he wanted £300] and we were very disappointed at the condition of the bitches he had. All looked like they had been bred many times with nipples like rasps. We expected smooth bull headed types but most were very small with bulging eyes and huge hound type ears, and a couple looked like border crosses with linty coats, none showed any work. He told us that the dame of the pups had over 40 fox last season while out on loan with hounds, and she never even had a scratch on her muzzle. We travelled 400 miles and my friend would not part with his hard earned cash for such a poor specimen. When we told him we didnt want the pup he told us that if we wanted a bullier type he would be lining one of his own line of Staff bitches with his best stud dog and that he would put us down for a pup wich we reclined. He then got angry and started telling us about how he started them all of Harcombe, Wheeler, Booth, Jones, Gould the list goes on and how they were cashing in by telling everyone that he had lost it and that his dogs are not the same as his old lines, wich he was adamant were as game and the same type as his grand father had before him. I would love to have met him when he was younger but wouldnt buy a pup from him now.

Frustrating as it is ,this post sums it up for me .Brian seems to think ,at the present time ,that people who have a name in the' business' owe him something, present day.20 years ago they did but im afraid repect has gone as far as present day work is concerned .I was lucky to know the chap when he was handy with a spade ,when he was producing the goods for work. Its time he stopped talking about the old times, long gone dogs and admitted loosing the best line of terrier blood ever produced IMO.

As pickaxe said though ,nearly all the lines in existance today owe something to Brians root stock .

His stuff still throws workers but not of the quality some of us are used to .

If you must have a terrier from a big name, buy one, but much better to wait for one from a lad who is digging to his own stuff and has a line back to some decent dogs ,present day .

why is there so much fuss over brian nuttall ,the working quality of his dogs dropped off as long as 20 years ago ,its nothing new .he seems to get a lot of stick on here ,he must be in his 70s now it would be impossible for him to find earth work for the amount of terriers he keeps,so he lives off his past reputation most old men do ,most of the people buying from him dont know any better would never test it and think they got a good dog . best of luck to him

can anyone tell me if theres anyone around that has pure nuttaul stuff had contact but lost his number.

Top Terrierman,

I am a Hunt terrierman with only has pure Nuttall terriers directly from Brian, who at 75yrs still comes out with me every saturday. We dug 2 yesterday, not a bad day.

PM me if you still need his details.

HELLOMATE ,CAN YOU TELLME HOW MANY OF YOUR DOGS YOU DIG WHEN OUT WITH THE HUNT.CAN YOU TELLME HOW MANY OF BRIANS STUD OR BREEDING BITCHES YOU DIG,TRUTHFULLY

Pip, We dug 2 on saturday and 3 on Monday (not with the hunt) so out of the 5 digs 2 were with my dogs and 3 with Brian's. So as you can see Brian's dogs do work. The picture of the chocolate dog attached to my profile is a 3yr old pure bread Nuttall out of Toady & Toffee. The dog is to hard for his own good.

Pip you started your post on this thread about dogs being to small now you think 14 1/2, 21/22lb to big and not spannable.

I think you have got the JEREMY BEADLE TERRIERMAN SYNDRUM in one hand to big on the other to small ;)

Was thinking that myself LOL

PICKAXE you mentioned gene pools Brian had. Do you think the reason his dogs were better 20 + yrs back was because he was breeding and working with the Breay/Buck gene pool, and what he has bred and got know is actualy his line and his gene pool whether some think he has made a success or ruined what he once had,.

Thats good to hear, are the dogs your own or Brians ,how often per year would these dogs be dug,are they British size dogs or American, just out of curiousity?

Pip, Not sure exactly what you are trying to get at, my dogs are owned by myself but bread by Brian. Out of all the digging which we do together i would say the split is 50 / 50 with regards to who's dogs work.

Obviously I have dug numerous times to Brian's dogs anything from 15mins and 18 inches to 12 hrs and 27 feet, YES 27 feet and we needed a JCB to dig the first 25 ft. Pictures attached.post-5346-1204831149_thumb.jpgpost-5346-1204831125_thumb.jpg
