How did the wee double bred buster pup turn out for you ?

he never got big enough,i kept him till he was about 20 months,he showed no interest in work so i sold him to a guy for 50 quid, for his young lad

You need a decent sized dog ti dig,all this talk some lads are saying "i want a small dog for fox",how many times do yous dig fox in minute spots? Most are out of places where a decent sized dog can move,SO WHY KEEP A DOG FOR THE "ODD" occasion when hes too small for the other 95% of times. Some of themdogs are much bigger than a ferret a fox would destroy it ,even if it was hard and had the constitution to take it it hasn t got the pysical ability,2 hard digs in grips a season to some of them rats.No point trying to justify Nuttals breeding regime for the american market by saying the dogs ,all of a sudden are practical over here.

i beg to differ round my neck of the woods the most foxes accounted for are in rabbity spots that have been scraped out a bit, a dog over 14" can struggle in them spots but this happens often enougth to warrent keeping a smaller stamp of terrier dont get me wrong i like to have a slightly bigger stamp of terrier about me also if youve got the kennel space why not cater for all circumstances

Im not talking of 12" up its the 10" light things im on about,a monster 16" 30pound dog is no good but theres a decent size for a earth dog and once you go above 2" or below 2" of that size your wasting kennel space, unless as you say mate you can cater for both,BUT as breeding goes would you breed 2 10" terriers together to get a litter of decent practical earthdogs?

no i wouldnt but i wouldnt hesatate putting a proven 10" terrier over some thing slightly bigger to try get a more balanced size i must agree 10" is a bit on the smaller size but if they work i'll kennel them

Why not ? if they were both 10" and good proven workers why not ?
IF YOUR INTO DIGGING THEN THE CHANCES OF BITCHES OUT OF A MATING OF 2 1O" TERRIERS MAKING ANYSIZE AT ALL IS SLIM.THE DOGS NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO HOLD ITS OWN AT LEAST EVENING THE CHANCES AGAINST ITS OPPONENT,AS A BREEDING PROGRAMME I DON T THINK ANYONE WHO WORKS DOGS SINGLE HANDED IN LARGE EARTHS WOULD EVEN CONSIDER IT.WHY WOULD YOU EVEN CONSIDER SUCH A IDEA?BOLTING DOGS SURELY BUT A KENNEL OF ALL ROUNDERS ??? :whistling: CAN YOU IMAGINE SUCH MITES AGAINST A BIG ANGRY DOG FOX WITH A VANTAGE POINT IN THE BURROW STANDING MUCH OF A CHANCE AFTER A 1,2,3,4 HOUR DIG??????

I'm not saying as a rule, or building a kennel around the two 10" dogs, what i am trying to say is there is enough shite out there being bred just for the sake of a quick quid, why not at least improve your chances by breeding two PROVEN 10" dogs together if the chance arises, instead of just grabbing a dog and breeding it to your bitch just because he's got a bit of leg on him, granted your point that the smaller ones will find it harder going against a big dog fox or angry vixen but why not go with the worker to worker regardless of size.

why not keep small stuff if your working foxs alot a small dog is realy what you need i understand what your saying but iv seen a few small dogs work fox on long distance better than bigger dogs. true they will get a few marks but if there good enough to know how to hold fox till dug to arent they handy to have.i work a small enough dog and a big type dog the small dog is geting a bit to old so i got the bigger one to do the work but on most digs this season i was lucky to have the small dog with me to do the job.the big dog was a waste of time spending ages trying to get to fox point im trying to make most of the fox earths are to small for big dogs so why not have a small dog that will work both sizes successfully.and a nuttel is one of with good heart for its size.

OH AYE GG YOUR PLAYING DEVILS ADVOCATE :D I DID NT SAY PICK ANY DOG OVER THE 10 " ERS JUST FOR SIZE IF YOU VE A CHOICE YOU D GO FOR THE AVERAGE SIZE WORKING DOG,IF I DIDN T HAVE A CHOICE THEN OF COURSE I D TRAVEL TO GET THE CHOICE AS EVEN THE BEST OUT OF THAT BREEDING COULDN T LAST. :thumbs:TT THE EARTHS WE DO ARE MOSTLY BIG ENOUGH TO HOLD A 13-15 DOG AVERAGE 17-23POUND THERES NOT ENOUGH WEE EARTHS TO MERIT KEEPING SNIPES.I HAVE KEPT A 10 " TERRIER AND HE WAS GOOD BUT HE WAS STEAM ROLLED AND BULLDOZED ALL THE TIME IF THE STUFF WANTED TO MOVE HE DIDN T HAVE THE BUILD OR WEIGHT TO HOLD IT.
