Shamo 319
I bought my Birds towards the end of the Season really and they are not as advanced as I would like. My male has not been able to catch of his own doing, without some help from me and the female has done well but numbers are a little low compared to what some guys have caught. I am thinking of flying them through the Spring and early Summer. I have plenty of permission and a lot want the Rabbits eradicated, leaving for next season is not an option. What do most of you think about flying the Birds through the Moult, mostly on the Lamp, but none the less during the Moult. Quote Link to post
jinxnjill 0
nothing wrong with it really, but its not something i would do myself, too many young critters running about and i like to have a bit of free time to do other things during the moult.. each to their own Quote Link to post
boycey 1 1
hi sham hope the telementry ok,i used to fly birds through the moult as long as u keep the birds abit higher in weight to help with the moult, there r supplements out now to put on your birds food to help with the growth of new feathers,u will find your birds will fly at a higher weight through the summer probaly. NIGHTSHADOW 3
I wont be flying mine ,due to this being her first moult, need her to be in tip top condistion for next season, plus far to much young stuff around,I aslo belive a true spots man never hunt when his game is breeding unless it your job Quote Link to post
hawklad 0
totaly agree with millet an old man told me if you let your young bird keep hunting trough the moult at young quarry it might not be botherd to hunt the older quarry when they get faster at running ect Quote Link to post
trappa 518
Ive flown through the summer and the problems you find are there is too much greenery on the trees and too much cover on the ground. You catch young prey also, which though i was doing it for a job and not a hobby , i thought it would be unsportsmanly to do as a hobby. If its a harris you are flying, then she will look a little scratty in the following season but thats only a superficial problem. Quote Link to post
SPAR 2
Its up to the individual, its one way to get a late bird entered with easy slips but then again its no different than shooting quarry. I think the only problem you have flying that time of year is the feathers will be in blood so any damage to the feathers may cause a problem if they get snapped or broken. Quote Link to post
