stubby 175
try to find either a member from here, or even a rescue centre first, go and view and have a sniff, you have done the right thing in asking first, before rushing out and buying one, or two (better kept in pairs) either search through the pages here, or visit the libary and get some books to read on ferret keeping, hopefully you'll be a bit better prepaired in a couple of months or so, when breeders have got kitts to get rid off, that would also give you time to get a hutch/court sorted out, should you deciede to get some read all you can on ferrets in breeding season, as some people find this a little complicated Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
ferret ..... smell like hell ..... stench ..... worst Good grief. Had your informant ever met a ferret? Did they also assure ye that ferrets bite savagely? That their jaws " Lock " when they do bite? That they thrive on bread and milk? That they like to live in the dark? That they need to be muzzled to stop them killing rabbits? Ferrets are among the most fastidiously clean creatures man has ever domesticated. Give one a run a hundred foot long and they'll make their nest at one end and walk that full hundred feet to relieve themselves. Keeping their latrine as far from themselves as they possibly can. " Smell like hell " ? Ferrets, if ye press ye nose into their fur and take a deep sniff, have a warm, spicey aroma all of their own. Most animals, if ye get that up close and personal, hold a distinctive scent. Doesn't mean to say ye can detect it at five foot. Any animal, confined to a small, squalid cage and never cleaned out, will begin to create unpleasent and unnecassery odours. Dogs would. You or I would. Is that to say Dogs and people " Smell like hell "? Hobs, male ferrets, in the peak of the breeding season can get that bit more roasty, due to hormonal changes. But " Reek "?! Hardly. I've kept male ferrets in my own living room and never been bothered by odour. Equelly, I've entered a room where a cat's pissed and wanted to throw up. Please dismiss and forget all that rubbish ye've been fed by an ignorant of the facts person. Like Stubby said; Get out and meet some well cared for ferrets. Let ye nose tell ye the truth. Then get hold of " The Complete Book of Ferrets " by Porter and Brown. Pelham Press. Available in as new condition for thirty quid and the best thirty quid a ferret keeper will spend Quote Link to post
