Kay 3,709
i would like permission to copy pics of peoples set ups , i would like to put together a collection of pictures so that i can show people on another site that ''working'' ferrets are not shut in small cages & are not fed bread & milk, all the usuall bollocks . I am sick of ''comments'' like ferrets found in certain areas are dumped working stock, as was reported in my local rag this sadly came from a peice that was done by my nearest rescue, i hope it was a miss quote , but the more i think about it the more i doubt it. So if any one objects to me doing this please just let me know , i do only want to use photos , not copying of posts Can i also use some pics of the ferrets in there collars & i think it was ''mikethedog'' who posted a pic for Andy of his kits chewing there way through a pile of meat Stubby can i use you video clip of the anderson shelter to show people please as well Magwitch can i use the nice pic of you arse as well opps thinking out loud Thanks in advance Quote Link to post

andy s410c 61
Good idea Kay i was thinking about ferret welfare yesterday after that posting with artwork.I think postings like that should be removed as it gives the anti,s out there a bit more ammo & personally i for one don,t want to know about ferts being treat as expendable .I will send you some pictures of my 2 taking charge of the house the other friday night after we had a couple of drinks & brought them in as we do regularly anyway, then they leave us with a trail of havoc!! PS I have,nt sorted a court yet i just keep my 2 in shoe box, give them cat food & beat them..... Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
Thanks everyone for the pictures but i just think along with the other myths we regularly hear its time to set the record straight regarding the state ferrets are kept in & the diet there fed once & for all I am sick of the ''random'' comments i read on some of the other forums i vist, keeping ferrets correctly has moved on light years & in general there kept better & vets are becoming more accustom to treating them now, so why are we still regarded as nothing other than the steriotypical '' poacher'' with a whippit type on a peice of string & a ferret in his coat pocket All other aspects of ferret keepings moved on ten fold , i have never hidden my dislike of ''showing ferrets'' its just my opinion after all, some do enjoy showing ferrets , thats there choice , same as ferrets kept purely as pets, thats fine, i see it like this as long as the animals fed housed & given adequate veterinary treatment when its needed thats all anyone can ask All i am trying to do is stop any divide , we all have one thing in common thats ferrets thanks for your time folks Quote Link to post
Kilmousk 0
Well done Kay. I am guilty and sitting back and not getting involved in the discussion on the other site and dont have the depth of knowledge and experience to contribute here. Some people i dont believe will change their opinion but your idea is fab and sure it would change some minds. I have started to reply to the negative responses to "workers" but felt it was like farting in the wind ... either will come back and hit me or just fade away. I only found this site as it was slated by someone on a different forum and rather than blindly jump on the bandwagon decided to look myself. In my opinion there is often better knowledge and condtions on "this side of the divide". And if advice is asked for it is considered and not instantly dismissed as not towing the party line. Kay 3,709
Hi Kilamousk. i just find i shake my head repeadly at the way some folks are brainwashed in to thinking people who work there ferrets basically dont care as to there welfare , if you browse this site you will see they do, infact the sheer amount who regularly use this section have a huge wealth of experience that they pass on freely, we all learn from each other & the fact that the folks on here work there ferrets matters little when it comes down to the welfare of there ferrets, there treated no diffferently to the ferrets of none working folk , yet at times if someone is looking for some aspect of the ferret world to blame its the working fraternity that get the blame . A classic example yesterday , a member posted a handrawn picture on here, it was a ferrets head , then it showed the muscle layer & then the skull, superbly drawn peice of work i would have been very proud off, but the downside was the kid who did it killed the ferret to enable him to draw the different elements that made a few of us rightly angry the the kid was pounced on from a very great hight All i want to do is make people realise that folk who work there ferrets arnt uncaring, neanderthol knuckle dragging pricks who breed because they can & knock every ferret who doesnt in there opinion make the grade. we get a wide variety of topics pretty much covered on here from feeding to housing to what type of locators best, again its all covered on here, so i just hope it will give an overall view of what the working folk within the ferret world really do , rather than folks just guessing & then saying what they think happens, but as you say theres always going to be a few who no matter how hard you try will never change there opinion, maybe its because deep down they can only draw from the very limited contact with the working ferret folk. Kilmousk 0
Thanks for reply Kay. I am country born and bred in Yorkshire and dont come with the prebuilt a predujice ... well not to working folk lol. I miss the wild rabbit, pheasant, partridge, pigeon etc that i grew up with. I miss knowing where my food came from. Our food was reared to be eaten and it was good quality, well cared for and most importantly (to me) well killed. I have browsed and read this forum for a while now and the topics are interesting and informative. Its refreshing to see advice constructvely exchanged. The "pet" forums do have their place and i do think the two should overlap ...its all experience being exchanged. I believe animals like having a role and while that role can be achieved in a pet home it often isn't. There are and always will be good pet homes and bad ones, good working homes and bad ones. And peoples ideals vary .... doesnt always mean they are right or wrong. Most importantly there are many homes that are pet and working homes! How shocking is that lol. All my pets are pets though i would happily work all them but i lack the time, opportunity and experience. Excuses yes as all can be gained ... and one day i will. Until then i will read and take what experience and knowledge i can get and store it for the future and remain envious. Kat Edited February 20, 2008 by Kilmousk Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
Exactly kat , its all about filling in that little gap that exists , and being able to debate & discuss without fear of a slating for backing something that the majority think is wrong. After all the more we explore new & old ideas the more we learn Quote Link to post
