jamesy 0
well over the last few months ive stepped up the training with my cocker rouge, shes 7 months now, and over the last few months ive been working on her retrieving on land and water, she took to the water with in about 3 days, and also firing gun shot around her and her hunting skill is very good , she has a great nose, she can be very hot headed and can be a nightmare to control sometimes but she is still very young, well today is the 19th and 20th is the last duck shooting day,and ive not done much shooting at all this season, i was out with my lurcher walking the fields by may house and i seen two mallard flying over, and landing in the field , theres a narrow still water stream there, so i thought this is my last chance for a duck for tea, so i went back to the house and got my gun, i dont really shoot and game without a dog incase you get a runner, but as i thought the mallard where in the center of the field i could pick them up myself (wrong) as i walked up the stream the mallard got up, i missed one and winged the other, should of had both but not shot much at all this season, well out of practice, the winged mallard was a runner right across the field into the bushes, what a nightmare, so i thought theres only one thing i can do, go and get rouge (even know she is still a bit young for game) so i brought her to the spot the mallard came down i left her hunt, straight down the scent trail of the duck into the bushes,, next thing the duck is back into the water diving and rouge is behind her swiming, the duck made off to a bank covered in gors bushes, rouge was straight in after it, next thing shes out with the duck in her mouth, as am waiting by the bank she give me the duck no problem and she was not hard mouthed at all, and bearing in mind this was her first time with game, so i thought i would post this just to say keep the faith with your training, i know it can be hard, but it will pay off in the end..
