Show strain lakelands

I think for the most part it has been a good discussion. I think both sides of the issue have brought up good points. But there are too many people to think as a show bred terrier as a poodles equivalent in the field

mate if u listen to what ur getting told and take it in instead of thinking were all out agaisnt u mate its be tested time and time again for the right result stick to worker to worker and stop fanny about with the brad pitts of the dog world :drink: :clapper:as for thinking that ur dogs are poddles no one has said that but if u think killing a possem above ground makes a working terrier u should listen instead of barking up the wrong tree

I am not accusing anyone of anything. I am happy with my dogs and I am sure you are happy with yours. Thats all that matters. But no one should claim that show bred terriers cant work thats an accusation.

With all of these instances of a show terrier couldnt work I bet you could come up with working bred dogs that couldnt perform either.

Well, there's NO JOBS available for 99.999999% of any breeds, are there?

IF YOU DONT HAVE A JOB FOR A DOG DONT GET A WORKING BREED AND THE SELLING OF WORKING DOGS TO NON-WORKING PEOPLE IS ALWAYS THE DOWNFALL OF ANY REAL WORKING DOG. THERE ARE PLENTY OF SHITY LAP DOG BREEDS OUT THERE.

hi boys ive got 2 show lakelands 1 of them is 10 inches no joke and f*****g hopeless i mean hopeless and its breeding is second to none just no interested .the other is diffrent story hes a black and tan out of ch celtic gold hes going the right way just now had a look ect nows the score just 1 year old al eat my heart if it doesnt go to ground its a good marker aswell. we will wait and see ive got a bet on way the boys they said a pure bred wont go to ground .its all in the up bringing boys i was very much a lurcher man for years and did very well with them i must admit .my moto is put the best to the best and hope for the best ive seen great lurchers mated together and pups all shit no joke and then ive seen shit to shit and getting great stock all down to luck boys i think.i think people are trying to get smart looking dogs and good workers some times it doesnt work that way.usually find the ugly ones are the best workers .as long as your happy what your dogs doing them thats all that matters. good luck boys

Theres no doubt that there will be some show dogs that would make the grade as good workers but the chances of finding one are few and far between .Its difficult enough to find a good un out of working stock let alone show dogs .Given the chance would you buy from working or show stock if you wanted a worker? its a no brainer really ,and then theres the money side of things if you found a worker who was shit hot would you pay show dog prices for it is it wrong or right if you could afford it supply and demand is in every game

its all about playing the odds isnt it? just a big numbers game. I for one am not a rich man , and would bet the safe money on the working blood rather than the show blood. And when you stop to think of it, the working blood is alot cheaper than the show blood too now isnt it. so buy aworker for two reasons. A improved overall odds on getting a workier from a worker, and B working blood is cheaper than show blood.

absoloutly spot on,why take the chance theres enough failures passed from pillar to post already

as i have said in other threads previously. the aim of a responsible breeder should be to produce top class working dogs who are true to the breeding standard(whether pedigree or not).if the kennel club thinks to change the standard in a direction that does not suit work then stick to the "old standard" but breed healthy strong dogs( teeth, testis, eyes, feet, etc etc).

the mentality of "it doesn't matter what they look like as long as they work" is the true destruction of any breed. faults as above cannot be positive input to working stock can they? if so why do the breeding standards( from original line men) not state the dog should be 13-15 inches tts, athleticly built without being over muscelled, should have weak joints, ears that can be easily torn, testis that should become cancerous within 5 years, strong teeth that should sit in an undershot/overshot jaw and be as blind as a bat with cataracts"

silly i know, thats why i do not understand this mentality.

the fault lies with the kennel clubs for not asking that dogs be "tested" before breeding( this is the case for most "working dogs" in germany).

not a moral sermon just a point of view fellas.
