Unfortunatly the mjority of KC terrier breeds are TOO BLOODY BIG.

Cairns, Westies, Skye, Scottish, Welsh, Lakelands, all the Irish terriers, alot of Jagds.

You can't span them, they would need a shovel to dig themselves in.

The ones that are still of the right size have had the work bred Out of them, Most Not all Borders.

I'm not talking about the obnoxious aggresive ones that just want to fight each other, (well they do as long as they are on their leads)

I'm talking about work, not 5 mins to ground twice a year.

Going to ground and staying till dug to, as long as it takes!

If you want show fine, but Workers are a different animal, these have been tested in the earth not on a bench!

My older mates always used show bred lakies to hunt bigger quarry when it was legal and they done the trick as they where more inclined to bark rather than mix

Sounds like a fantasy to me Pip....................................you don't have mates :D:tongue2:

Please elaborate for me in any way shape or forum is that a stupid statement? Have you ever had or seen a fox terrier in action? They will glue just about anything and as slip said they ar keen iv seen a small wired haired fox terrier bitch IKC reg (showen till she was 15mths then got to hard to handle in the ring so a buddy a mine got her) in action a few times when she would enter you would want to move out of the lads way who owned her because he had to dig like a jcb to get to her asap because she was so hard she would go in and just mangle so you wouldnt want to be waiting around or else she would just come back out after a while after polishing it off and you can bet your bollo* to a barn dance it will be dead. she was also a sausey fu*ker tho stared on a lurcher when she was around two ish well lets just say she didnt see three! :whistling:

from waht you are saying IMO is not a good wroking terrier, firstly you stated that the dog was in action a FEW TIMES, secondly starting on lurchers not a good move, an aggressive dog with other working dogs terriers lurchers is more trouble than it is worth. A good working dog is one that is confident in itself has no need to start on other dogs (only finish) and has 3-4 years under its belt with regular work and does not come off its quarry. Just out of curiosity you stated that the dog would come off if it killed below ground, if it was that quick how did you get a mark on it and dig to find out if the quarry was dead and the dog did not just come out after a slap. This is not a dig at you mate just my opinion which could be wrong as i was ONCE back in 1985 LOL

Well said. Regarding the show types, i'm sure they may well catch the occasional squirrel or possum but surely any dog, whether it be a kennel club King Charles Spaniel or Shi tzu might try to do that, dogs being dogs, and dogs chase small animals, birds, cats etc and bark to let warn if a stranger approches their territory - that is natural dog behaviour and i'd be surprised if a dog (of any type) didn't do that.

BUT

A workers priority is to be a worker, not a looker, although there are some handsome workers i'm sure........
