" Tap on the ankle " :clapper::laugh::notworthy: Pure Class! :D

Actually, mate, it sounds a lot like what my old Bull 'n Terrier came up with - and, I can assure ye, he never knew a bare floor for a bed in his life! He simply presented this almost table tennis ball sized sphere on his back hock one day. Came out of no where. Just sort of there, 'stuck to' his back leg. Damndest thing.

Had it checked by a white coat - didn't have a f*cking clue, of course. Still took my money.

Dog died of old age last september. Buried him, still with his water filled ball on his leg. He'd had it about four years by then. Never gave him a minutes bother. Laying on bare, harsh floors causes sores. Not fluid filled balls beneath the skin.

My only concern though is that, if ye Dog's a runner or digger (ye don't say) then it may snag the damn thing somehow, in action, and cause complications by ripping it open. Otherwise, if ye feel it's in an out of the way enough place? May as well do what I did and leave it alone. Could ask a white coats opinion, of course. What ever that is, it'll cost ye £££'s and, in all liability, still leave ye with the f*cking thing.

Your shout, really.
