hairyface 211
some valid points made by a few of you , im running a crewcab hilux 2.4 td on 100% biodiesel which i make myself. as its been said ,some filling stations do sell a "biodiesel" but that is actually 95% fossil diesel 5% biodiesel, bosch fuel pumps can cope with chucking new veg oil straight into the tank with fossil diesel, whereas lucas pumps cant. but everybody is jumping on the bandwagon and at the shops local to me,they have hiked there prices up from 37p a litre to 98p a litre for new oil so its barely worth it. what i do is put 80litres of used veg oil(which i pick up from various pubs), i avoid chip shops as some tend to use solid fat, what you need is cold running oil(sunflower/soya/rapeseed)rapeseed being the best, avoid palm oil as it solidifies when cold, avoid kabab shops as they put everything in the same barrel, all the fat of that lump of shit that spins in the window, tallow will solidify.once ive got my oil in my reactor i heat it up to 50 degrees while i titrate my oil, titrating yer oil dertermins how good of quality yer oil is as some people dont change there oil as regular as others, brand new oil titrates at 3.5, so once youve titrated your used oil you add the number to 3.5 to see what it has titrated at. titration. put 10ml of isoprophyl alchohol into a beaker, add 1ml of used veg oil, add 3 drops of phenylyne(indicator) then add some sodium hydroxide, now what you want to see is yer solution turning pink as soon as poss, newer oil will turn pink quicker than oil thats been abused, if it turns pink after youve put 1ml of sodium hydroxide in, add the 1 to the 3.5 to get 4.5, so that means the oil youve got in yer reactor has titrated at 4.5 mixing on the side of my reactor there is a mixing tank, where you put your methanol, you need 2o% volume of yer oil, so if youve got 80litres of oil you put 20litres of methanol in yer mixing tank, then you times the 4.5(from your titration) by to get 360, now you put 360 gramms of caustic granuals into your methanol and mix it up to make methoxide, pump yer methoxide into yer oil and let it mix for 1hour then let it settle for 8hours, after which you'll see a distinctive line in yer tank where youve got glycerine in the bottom and biodiesel in the top, drain off the glycerine and neutralise yer bio with malt vinegar, once the ph is down to 7 which is ph neutral, you wash yer oil, then dry it ,then bang it straight in yer tank,, you are allowed to process and used 2500litres per year, after this you have to notify the correct people then pay duty on anything you make over the 2500 limit
hairyface 211
i forgot to add, if i get my oil for free, i can make it for as little as 15p a litre, so for every 100litres i put thru my 4x4 i save £
