Bio Diesel

I know someone who runs his old LDV van on 50% diesel/ 50% veg oil no problems. Peugeot 1.9 engine in it as I remember.

Another option is the petrol vehicles which were converted to LPG when that was the next big thing a few years back. They didn' t hold their value- recently saw an LPG converted Subaru Legacy for under a grand. LPG still a bit cheaper at the pumps, or a great deal cheaper for farmers who happen to run gas corn driers.

Just filled my old Range Rover 3500cc up with LPG, feckers have just put it up to 42p per litre gona have to find a cheaper supply. :boogie:

Fishfish how do you buy it ? what I mean is do you buy a trolley full of 1litre cartons or 5 gallon drums

I am just thinking of the logistics of getting it. Do you fill it up in Sainsburies car park and chuck the plastic cartons in the recycling bin ??

What is the running difference between corn and sunflower oil ? just curious.

it comes in 2 litre bottles, and yes i have a standing order with them to pick up 30 bottles every tuesday,i just tell them its for a chip shop and theyre cheaper than bookers. as far as i know there is no difference in veg oils in running a car,i just buy what ever is the cheapest,if olive oil was cheap ide use that! also worthy of note is that a diesel car will run on central heating oil at 15p per liter but it stinks!

just use red diesel the amount you would save in 1 year , even if you did get catched the amount you have saved in the 1 year it would still be worth doing. if i am abit low on fuel just go to out bulk tank for the boat and get abit of red derv no problems so far

I have the old rangie petrol converted to LPG and also run a diesel car but you can bet if I put "red" in i would get pulled and dipped. If it wasnt for bad luck I wouldnt have any at all.

However I would like to try some veg oil in my diesel but I think its the fear of doing damage to the car engine or the fuel pump.

What damage could it do ??? Come on you mechanics !!!!

Before you put SVO or WVO in your tank check which fuel pump you have, Land Rovers fitted with Bosh type pump are ok however problems arise when you have a Lucas type pump.

Expect to change your fuel filters more often (initially anyway) when using SVO and as someone has already stated you have to filter WVO and if I remember correctly you have to put a percentage of alcohol in it & leave it for a while to do it's business.

Reason for filter changes - SVO drags all the sh&t out of your tank & lines that you didn't even know was there.

Pre heat options are available for 100% SVO as it's thicker when cold.

Check which fuel pump you have before you try it or it will be costly

Just another word of caution chaps, several have mentioned 'red wine, cherryade, claret' call it what you may, it is illegal to use it in a road going vehicle and C&E have the power to confiscate your vehicle.

It is not worth the risk
