Must be a terrible infliction to have, s s s sstuttering. I can recall a guy on that TV programme "Call my Bluff" from the early 1980s, Patrick Campbell I think he was called. Feck he had it bad! (Or did he have a stammer?). I also work with a ranger who nearly nuts you, such is his struggle and frustration to get his words out! :realmad:

I remember reading that some people stutter because they are left handed and in their draconian school days they were forced to write with their right hand instead of left, thus confusing their brain. I dont know if its true or not?

Very interesting topic though, Shaggy you do ask some weird and wonderful questions :D

Brian was the same mate, He is left handed and he had a mild stammer when he was younger. He went to school in this little place out in the middle of nowhere and the teacher was apparently a real bitch! She used to lock them in cupboards, beat them and not allow them to go to the toilet, she was evil! In those days teachers could get away with whatever they wanted and act like they ruled the kids with a rod of iron, He reckons that played a part in why he had a stammer. One of his classmates who wasnt allowed to go to the toilet ended up peeing his pants - now thats got to scar you a bit mentally you would think.

Nowadays if teachers so much as raise their voice at the kids they get in trouble, it goes from one extreme to the other with no line in the middle :icon_eek:

was left handed..forced to write right handed at infants school...hence my hand right is absolutely appalling ....A girl at work laughs at it when i leave notes on her desk..she thinks there is a serial killer loose :11:

But as a by product I developed a serious stammer..I also developed a nasty temper as i grew up and was bullied a bit by older lads...Probably part of the reason im into fieldsports is due to the hours i spent alone in the woods and fields with my dog to avoid having to speak with people due to the embarrassment it caused me. Never ever stuttered playing sports though.

I eventually developed the confidence to outgrow it at around 15 and became the mouthy c**t i am today... But a word of warning...Mocking people over skin colour hair colour glasses etc is bad enough for the victim..mock a stammerer and it will give them a red rage inside that totally transcends normal actions..I once saw a lad split someones face open with a plastic tray in the dinner que for mocking his stutter..that same lad also developed into a very nasty b*****d on the football field ;)

The couple who used to live down the street from me, the husband used to have a bad stutter and a strong South African accent as well, as a result he was quite a quiet man who didnt speak much perhaps from years of people not being able to understand him, but when he did, and you were patient with him and didnt try to finish off his sentences (Something that REALLY annoys stammering people) he usually had something worth listening to, it was as though he didnt waste his words because each one was so precious to him. They were a really nice couple, theyve moved back to South Africa now, they were a huge help to me when I first started writing for CM Weekly, they let me use their computer to write the articles when my old typewriter died :D

Ive also got a mate Gareth who stammers, he is worse on the phone, probably due to nerves, but when hes been in your company for a while, he relaxes and it is not so noticeable. He has no problem getting the lasses though, he has got a different woman every time I see him :D so he must be able to speak the language of lurve :11:

I think stammering is very common, I know a few people with speech impediments and would never dream of making fun of them, I have a similar problem myself when I have had a few cans of cider :11:
