Guest Ditch_Shitter
Is it only to hold gun powder, I wouldn't honestly know, mate. I believe it's the whole deal though. This is just what I've heard, annecdotally, in conversation. " John Galway " or " SnapShot " would be ye men to give ye confirmed chapter and verse on it. Only I've simply never had any interest in the subject myself. Just picked up snippets. Quote Link to post
Guest JohnGalway
This is to the best of my knowledge, there are much better sources than me, so don't take any of this as gospel. I've seen reloading bits and pieces on sale in Galway and Athlone, dies, presses etc. I don't think there's any problem with owning the equiptment itself. From what I've read on other forums the problem starts with powders and primers. I believe a person needs an explosives licence to hold them, and that basically you won't get one. Although I have heard other stories about people who have asked their Supernintendo and got the go ahead. I wouldn't try it personally, can't prove that story right or wrong. I know what I think about it myself but don't like to say since I can't prove it either way. There are many folks who are being naughty. It's not worth the risk getting caught in my opinion. There have been a good few topics on an Irish shooting forum about homeloading. There was talk last year of homeloading being legislated for, in the criminal justice bill I think, but it seems to have been forgotten since Michael McDowell got his marching orders as Justice minister, or at least I've not heard any more on it. Guest merkel
Check out reloading solutions limited. You can buy smokeless powder, bullets and casings without any kind of certificate. You need a FAC to buy rifle primers and a SC to buy shotgun cartridge primers. You need an explosive cert to but black powder but tha is only because it can go off easy where a primer is needed to set off rifle powder. Hope this helps. Edited February 18, 2008 by merkel Quote Link to post
Guest baldie
Its not legal in Eire, and i can promise you than no UK gunshop will supply you with components, as its illegal, and also the shipping costs to eire, are ridiculous. Dont take the risk mate, you would lose your ticket if caught, and probarbly your liberty. With the progressive way forward, that irelands gun laws are going, i wouldn,t expect it to be too long before you can do it legally anyway. Guest merkel
You can buy components for homeloading shells in the uk. http://www.reloadingsolutions.com/ You can buy all what you need with just a FAC.Black powder you need a Explosive certificate but you dont use that in rifle shells unless you want low power and alot of smoke. Hudgesons rifle propplent is what you need. Quote Link to post
Guest baldie
As i understand it, Merkel, you dont hold an FAC, or understand the conditions required to obtain one, judging by your other posts? Then why are you advising a member from southern ireland on where to buy reloading components in the UK, when it has been stated previously in the topic, that holding explosive powders and primers, is illegal in that country? For your information, a sgc is not required for shotgun primers, but an FAC is required for rifle and pistol primers. Quote Link to post

You're advising a member from the Republic of Ireland to undertake an illegal activity in the Republic of Ireland. Can't make it any clearer than that for you. Quote Link to post
