Happymama 0
Hi all. I've a saluki x whippet, which is our best guess. Too small for a greyhound x. But apparently an unusually tall example of the crossing. I've had nineteen vanloads or car loads of young men in one year stop me and offer to buy her off me. I always make a point of telling them she's neutered, to make her less desirable, but she just looks blinking fast. I'm concerned about her being stolen, to be honest, and always exercise her away from prying eyes. Round where I live, a break in would be in the way of the natural order of evening entertainment. She's got the long toes and nails, prominent hip bones, legs like scaffold poles, a very small head and rose ears. She's fawn with dark tips and that creamy lining and eyebrows of the Saluki. She can sprint for England, on Redcar beach people just stand and stare as she streaks past. She can keep it up for over an hour. Her power to weight ratio is very high, her hindquarters are supremely well developed. She's got a fabulous nature and lives quite happily with stroppy cats, and the kids, lol. Her name is Daisy and she was first left tied to the RSPCA's gate, and I got her from Dog's Trust after her previous owner had to keep her in an indoor cage because their other dogs were aggressive to her. I have NO idea why anyone would dump such a fabulous and gentle dog, but they did. When I got her she'd never been off a 2.5m lead. The first time I let her off on the beach she didn't come back for an hour and a half, just going round and round and round. Now I just shake the lead and call her, and so long her springs have been run off, her recall is excellent. It takes about 10 mins to run her first springs off, then she gets her 2nd wind. The first time I let her go in a field of rabbits, it was what you might call a target rich environment. But enclosed with British Rail wire, and lots of hummocks of long grass, they showed their tails and ran for cover and she just stood and shook with emotion. Bless. Well, that's the dog. I'll dig a photo out sometime and you can all marvel at the most perfect canine running machine I've ever seen (lol). I'm living in the darkest corner of the North East, just bought my dump of a house, and am trying to do it up. Currently have no heating and hot water. Single mum to three, and I just LUUURVE rabbit. Stewed, grilled, BBQ'd - any way you want it. One day she'll catch one. I'm interested to know if there any clubs in my area - Co Durham. X HM X
