COMPO 54
As soon as he's had his jabs and he allowed to go out. i personally wouldn't wait that long, by the time he is all jabbed up he would be 3 months old, start him now! 6 weeks old and he shouldn't have much prey drive, remember show and introduce him to ferrets now, but keep re-inforcing the "dont touch ferrets" rule right upto him being 18months or so, you cant over do this part of training, and when he is jabbed and able to go out then introduce and break him to farm stock, sheep, horses, cattle etc.... a dog that goes for a ferret wouldn't be allowed in my house, the ferrets take priority and the dogs know this, a rabbiting dog that doesn't respect ferrets....is no rabbiting dog! rabbitforahabbit 0
I started my Patterdale at about 8 weeks and they all became best of freinds quite quickly. I was then told the dog would be no good on rats as he is now soft etc.As it is he feckin hates rats with a passion and will mix it up with them all day, but he completely ignores the ferrets as they come out after the rats or rabbits. I reckon I was just lucky and got a belter of a dog, as some of me mates have had nightmares with dead ferrets bitten dogs and the like. Like me you will here all sorts of stories as what is best, my top tip for the day, start em young be patient and hope lady luck is on your side. Good luck mate. thanks for the info [bANNED TEXT] appreciate Quote Link to post
