Why not use then Bradders, and keep the ratcatcher for paper targets.

I think what people are trying to say is, our sport is always under the spotlight and people will use anything to make us look bad. If you have a more powerfully rifle use it, as their are a lot of people out there who think we are doing is wrong.

 

so we should all make sure we use the best tools, we have for the job!

ive owned one those guns and the power of it is no where enough to take animals out.

 

How many shots did it take to kill the squirrel because you can see where you body shot it, myself personally would only hit a squirrel in the head and not the body and i own the s410 carbine which is double the power of the ratcatcher. I know there pest`s but theres no need to make them suffer.

 

Any way nice picture.

 

Very quick to assume and have a pop as usual. i own one of those and at the right range and used with accuracy they are perfectly capable of doing the job. Still, nothing like a bit of in fighting to cheer up the antis its a miracle anyone posts anything on here at all with all the "experts" poised over there key boards ready to put the boot in

Ratcatchers are fine for short range vermin control. Yes they only put out a maximum of about 7ft/lbs, but that's more than enough for err.... catching rats.

 

Not an ideal tool for vermin control but it has it's place.

 

EDIT: It's also worth knowing that current airgun law prohibits the shooter allowing pellets to leave the boundary of the property. That means using a 12ft/lbs air rifle, within the confines of a small area could be both illegal and extremely dangerous.

Standard ratcatcher is putting out about 6ftlbs, in cold weather that would be nearer 4 or 5ftlbs.They are designed for indoor ratting,and are not the tool for shooting squirrels.

 

Are you sure about that Bill mate? I always thought that the standard ratcatcher was about 8-9 ft lbs, and the king ratty was 9 1/2- 10. The 2240 (ratbuster) pistol put's out dead on 6 ft/lbs, so the longer barrel on the ratcatcher would deffo up the power from 6 ft lbs.

You're dead right about the cold weather though.

 

Malt,put a standard ratty over the chrono and see what figures you get.My have been "sorted" rebuilt with new seals,and tuning parts.With a standard length barrel and standard hammer springs on both guns,in a warm room i get,approx 7.5 ftlbs with the ratty,and about 9.5 with the king ratty.

I've had 7 ft/lbs with both and that was in a centrally heated room. King and Standard.

 

After 10 shots on the standard the power dropped by 0.5ft/lbs, per shot, until it ran out.

 

The King had about 30 shots before it started losing power and it was in smaller increments. 0.1 at a time.

Your welcome, i never normally get involved but im getting more and more pissed off with seeing every post, from someone whos been out,done a bit and been generous enough to take photos to share, slated by others who only post criticism.

 

if everyone just put their own experiences / stories / pics up then the forum would be much better. im all for discussion but having to wade through all these "holier than thou" posts gets on my tits. i am perfectly able to draw my own conclusions based on my own experience.

Thanks for the reply Bill. I was just going on the figures I read somewhere. Where did you get the custom parts, if you don't mind me asking? The only parts I could find were in the states. I wouldn't mind converting mine to bulk fill. Any advice would be appreiciated.

Ive got 2 of these .. 1 very kitted with crosman steel breech,Boss valve, crooked barn extended bolt probe, had the hammer spring and guide polish, trigger tuned, the barrels been recrowned and had the mechanism and sears polished.. and that pushes out about 10.4 ft/lbs on a normal day.

Then my 2nd as pretty much bog standard at the minute .. and id be lucky to hit 8ft/lbs indoors with it. Does the job shooting rats in the sheds but not half aswel as the other.

Go for it Malt,order the 24inch barrel,and if they question it tell them its a poker.
