jultaylor1972 2
Hi all, my mate has a rat problem in her house at the minute. She says there's only one but there's sure to be more. She's having building work done and actually lives right next door to a builders merchant. A rat came out of a hole at the bottom of the wall and made its way into the next room via some chocolate which was on a work bench, she and her husband have seen one a few times over the last few days. Ive set my mink trap with chocolate near the entry/ exit hole and its been there for two nights now with no success?? What am I doing wrong? Any advice will be very much appreciated Rats aren't my speciality to be honest - but its like a challenge to me now Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Sorry, Jules, but; While you're enjoying your " Challenge " your friends life in very real and present danger. Simple as that. It's just not a situation to perpetuate, no matter how well meant the cause. Get them to call the local council who will probably send someone round for free. Failing that, a sole trader local Pro' will quite probably get there faster and make a more thorough job of it anyway. Who ever turns up, they should first survey, then treat the problem. But, most of all, they'll advise on Proofing measures which your friend Must attend to. Ignore any silly little sixteen year old fantasists who next post, saying " Get yer frrits out, mayte! ". F*ck ferrets. F*ck everything. Rats inside a domestic dwelling are a sure fire recipe for horrible happenings to health. Please stand aside on this one, love. We're not talking about nuisance rabbits here. Life is at risk. Potentially yours too, if ye get involved. Quote Link to post

She fell out with the pest control on the phone - apparently they laughed at her and were sarcastic Ive told her to phone the council and have tried (Without frightening her too much) to tell her about the dangers of rats with all the diseases they carry etc. Perhaps I should take a stronger stance with her after reading that!? I'll go straight round to hers in the morning and let her read this post. Cheers guys. Quote Link to post
trappa 518
There will be loads of other pest controllers in your area in the yellow pages. Cant understand them being sarcastic on the phone ( prob someone working for a big company or council)- if it was a small business they will be glad of your business and will do a fine job too. It was the people her house insurance company told her to go through so they obviously get a lot of jobs that way - not the best way to run a business IMO I spoke with her today and she has environmental health going out, phew!! trappa 518
Its a shame there are people out there like that jules. I run a small pest control company and take each job seriously- wouldnt dream of being sarcastic to a bona - fide customer. Hope she has some luck as rats are not only carriers of disease-they can do some serious damage chewing. Quote Link to post

Much as I try to operate a minimal poison policy It's minimal exposure policyfor me when it comes to rats.Traps= exposure( every time I handle, rebait and do dailychecks etc )to real danger and the fact that a trapping campaign tends to continue longer than a poisioning attack extends the risk .ElfnSafety demands minimal exposure to risk not parlour games with bits of bent metal. If I sound a bit "straight",sorry ,but a mate of me Dad died of Weils before Christmas. Matt 160
Some sound advice from the 'shitter' there. If you need a recommendation for a good local guy, drop me a PM and I'll see if I can help. Whatever happens, take the problem seriously, and get in a genuine pro. The people employed by councils aint always that great; neither are some of the one man bands, or (I'm ashamed to say) some of the nationals. A recommendation goes a long way in this game...................... Quote Link to post
