the patterdale terrier by sean frain. his research goes right back

Sean Frain is the new Plummer & hasn't got a clue about digging

another bold statement....

hes got quite a few published books! (that to me says his opinion is valued) how many books do you have to your name.

he works his terriers mate, he works them alot.

probly dug a few more times than you too...

Is that how you rate a terrierman? By how many books they've released. Thought it generally went on the quality of the dogs they produce/work & their attitude to the digging game. How many proper terriermen have brought books out? Very few pal.....

i thought his book on middleton was interesting, but he repeats himself alot and waffles on too much,"the traditional working terrier "was not much good,i wouldn't advise anyone to buy it,and i was really looking forward to getting" the patterdale terrier" by him but was dissapointed with it,too much crap in it,this i was hoping would be all about patterdales and the lads who breed and work them, but instead there was lots of pics of lakeland terriers and plummers, gary middleton, mentions of middletons dogs, wilks rock etc!!! the man "hunts" rabbits with a pack of terriers!! not what you want to be reading when you have spent your money and are looking forward to a book about terrier WORK! i wouldn't go as far as to say the man is a twat, i think that was a bit harsh, and fair play to him he is brave enought to put pen to paper and produces books on the dogs and sport he loves but there are much better books out there than his,as the lads have said, harcombe, darcy and the men you want to be reading and the fell terrier by plummer. jmho

Me and my mate bought Badger digging with terriers and world of the working terrier and i thought Harcombe repeated himself a bit too.I am not a fan of Plummer, bit pompous, but The Fell Terrier is the best book on terriers written excluding of course the phrases "Hard as nails yet rarely getting marked" or Game as a pebble yet sensible? You have to give it to him though he done the research and produced a good book on origins of the breed which none have done since because they ll not put in the work.

I ve asked the question before though ,why do some say the book is innacurate?,no one cares to explain it .

Chapman???Dog dealer and waffler.Anyone who digs or has dug to dogs will see the impossibility of some of his stories.

As for Sean Frain i know nothing about him but he idolises people who i know to be plonkers and who breed for show.As far as calling a dog out or having one that will only stay for 2 hours? That does nt even make sense, some places you dig you can t set a time on how long your going to be there so why start to dig to the dog if you know the dogs going to jack at the 2 hour mark?I d say the 2 hour is an exaggeration. He done some interesting articles in the CMW about 4 years ago and the dogs he mentions in his ped.where not working terriers ,FACT.

However thats nothing to do with him personnally as i don t him.

If you can write and have been in dogs long enough to know whos who and whats what then why not do a up to date version of the FELL TERRIER using only initials of people and counties where they live.Maybe it ll never happen cause writers today aren t interested in facts anymore just ££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££

Well it gets a bit repetitive reading stories of digs, most lads are interested in bloodlines as well.Im not talking about Darcy as he s top of the league at the minute but you know what i mean Stabs .Anyone could write about digs and digging but it takes investigation and determination to write about terrier breeding etc.

All this "good photo" and "we got a call from a chicken farmer looking a pest shifted 30 mins later fox dispatched ,farmer happy, etc etc gets a bit boring.Since The Fell terrier the books have been very similar in style and very few shed any new light on the matter.Plenty on here who are genuine about WORKING dogs and are against puppy peddlars ,surely theres a need to highlight the genuine lines ,in a careful way,and show the young lads that are starting out that the big names we all know about are DEALERS mostly.

if ya going to buy a book darcy is ya man, understated and informative, but i think we all know terrier books have to walk the political tight rope, read all frains books and masterpieces they aint, but they do what they say on the cover and have some amazing pictures of terriers smart and game!!! everyone works differently thats life why slag off a person you have nevermeet just cus hesdifferent jealousy gets you know wher. you judgemental whingers should try and right a book your self, remembering 1 thing your putting yourself right in the path of the antis

With regards to the judgemental whingers ,everyones entitled to their view if that means judging another mans writing then that man has put himself in the public eye threfore must expect judgement, whether good or bad.

had know idea that the forum would get so deep.so surely if a man wishes to pass an opinion on something he/she should be educated enough in the field of discussion for his/her opinion to be valid. not just arguing a point for the sake of arguing. these people can not be judged as writers for iam sure none of them are trained writers. they do there best to give us terrier men something to read. if it wasnt for them i would be up to date with east enders and alike, rather than sitting reading the valid opinion of somebody that has obviously working, breed or been involved with terriers

im not a twat just amusing my self each to their own happy hunting!!

I'm not having a go at the blokes writing ability but the content, how many terrier lads would be content that their dogs had done their bit after a couple of hours then came out? The lakeland was bred to kill foxes not bay for a few hours then jack.
