theobenmike 0
With the buds starting to shoot and a welcome bit of warmer weather, I thought it's time to get the larsen trap out. I know it's not quite spring yet but it'll soon be here. So I have baited the larsen with eggs and a bit of dead grass made to look like a nest (I didn't have any straw but this didn't look too bad) . I am going to try what seems to be impossible - to catch my own call bird rather than get one off a mate, well for at least a week or two anyway I know I'm being a bit impatient yet because I only set it on Tuesday All I have seen near the trap so far is a few rooks, like this one Has anyone caught their own call bird so far this year . Guest Ditch_Shitter
Has anyone caught their own call bird so far this year Not just yet, mate, as I have no eggs right now. But, as soon as I get round to it I'll be slapping some in there and am perfectly confident of getting a Call Bird sharpish. Sort out the bugger haunting my own ground. Then I'll ship it up to Noels place, up on the road. Probably follow up by scooting it along to Pat's too. Quite looking foreward to completely annhialating the local maggie population this year, me. I'm in the mood for it now Quote Link to post

Guest Ditch_Shitter
We only have Hoodies here, mate. " Gray Crows " as they're known locally. Rooks being seen simply as " Black Crows ". Alough John Galway tells me they had a couple of Carrion Crows over his way? Buggered if I'd know where they came from. We also have Ravens, obviously. Enough that I like to see them, but it hardly amazes me to do so. Eggs? Shall we say; I only catch magpies in my Larsen. But I've used everything from eggs to half a kitten to take both maggies and grays by other means. Quote Link to post

Knifebar It always seems hard to me to catch the first maggie without already having a call bird, it's just something I want to accomplish hence the title "mission impossible" I too have put a small mirror in the trap by the fake nest, dunno whether it helps or not Once you've got a call bird then the rest is easy For those people who have caught a call bird Keep on trapping 'em, them tweety birds appreciate it Quote Link to post
