Guest Ditch_Shitter
I'd dropped by an unrelated Chat Room last night for a word with an old mate who works in there. I guess I was just explaining our nice weather and how I take a wander most afternoons now with the rifle. The feathered vermin's well into pairing up now and it's my remit to seperate them as and when I can. Well, some other name popped up and asked me what gun I had. I told him " .22 Hornet ". To which he replied, " Mag? ". So I explained that, no. This Pig had twice the power of a WMR and was centrefire. Then, as an after thought and to better illustrate my meaning and the rifles capability, I paraphrased my favourite bit of dialogue from Scorcsese's " Taxi Driver "; Ye know the scene where Sport, the pimp, is extolling the merits of his young stable member to Travis Bickel? He's in full flow about all that, " Man, you ain't Never had pussy like this! " Etc. and sums up by enthusing that " She'll blow your **** so hard, she'll make it Explooooode!!! ". Thus I told my querant; " Man; I hit a f*ckin crow with this thing around 100 yards? It's gonna Explode! " And damn me if, just this afters, I didn't go and prove myself pretty damn right! I was out for my usual wander. Just the three rounds in my pocket. As much to just be out there and always looking for that off chance. As is becoming my routine now, I first strolled along to Noels top farm and had a pleasent chat with him before checking out the ground behind there. Nothing happening so I wandered down the road towards Pat's place. And that's when I saw a magpie, sat there at the very top of a tree and with its back to me. I kept calculating as I strolled, dead casual looking, but scheming like mad. I knew there was nothing beyond that b*stard but mile upon mile of open field and a vast forestry plantation. It was a safe shot. I was also achingly aware that every step was bringing me closer to the open gateway inside which Pat had a load of silage bales. Perfect cover and an ideal resting / firing point. If I could just ..... And there I was. There he was. He hadn't moved. Just sat there feeling cocky about himself in the afternoon sun light. He was still sat there as I broke the gun over a bale and slipped one into the breech. I adjusted the scope. Found him. Steadied myself for the aim. The cross hairs sat rock solid on his 'shoulder blades'. Once again, as is my want, I allowed myself to savour that moment. Then I squeezed the trigger. CLICK!!! FFS! But he was still sitting there. With the greatest economy of movement possible, eyes locked on my quarry, I ejected that one and was vaguely aware of it bouncing off the side of a bale. Time to find that in a minute. I fished out a fresh round. Loaded. Aimed. CLICKED!!!!! 'The F*ck was going on here?!? And this time the b*stard even checked over his shoulder as if to flip me the fingers with his beady eyes. One round left in my pocket. Maybe it was a new found fault with The Pig itself? What ever; This damn gun's cursed with me. Back on his shoulder blades for the Third time. Squeezed and KISHOWWWW!!! And I actually whitnessed, clear as day through the full 9X magnification as a perfect circle of feathers burst into an outward wave! God all f*cking mighty: The damn thing Did 'Explooooode!' Something long and dark spun out and caught in the tree. I hoped it wasn't him, because I wanted Something to show Pat and Noel. Anyway, I went round and pushed through to the tree and there was a deep ditch on my side. I looked down into it and - I'm sorry, but - I just burst out laughing! I Promise ye: He Never Felt A Thing! I'm sorry I can't compress that shot to make it more 'friendly' to fellow slow connection users, only I haven't any of my software loaded on this dying machine now. And I do have a pic' of the bit of feathered meat attatched to a wing that came down. But showing that would be just Too gratuitous and pointless. Anyway, as enough here will be gagging to say: It's only a bit of road kill I picked up anyway, eh There's Them As Knows Me ..... Quote Link to post
