gollum 1
Big Bad Brian has 2 little white spots behind his ears. Any cause for concern? Hi Shaggy, if it does turn out to be ticks...I have the same problem with mine, I spoke to a vet today over the phone and he said that frontline can have "unpredictable results" if used on a ferret and would not recommend it without first examining the ferret. The unpredictable bit meaning that it could damage their health in some unspecified way. I am using a pair of fine tweezers to pull them off which is tricky and difficult with my Jill twisting and turning but it can be done and I would suggest doing it on a daily basis until its sorted. However, the vet also said that the ticks, once full of blood will naturally fall off. He also suggested changing bedding DAILY!! and using shredded paper rather than hay/straw until its they have all gone, this becasue they can leave eggs or babies in the bedding waiting to reinfest the fert. Good luck and hope this helps. G Quote Link to post
gollum 1
Forgot to mention that some ticks can carry a nasty disease called Lyme disease which can cause problems. If you do a web search for Ferrets + Tick removal + Lyme disease you may find some interesting stuff about the do's and don'ts. I don't want to argue with anyone here, but all the info I have found advises against using vaseline to starve the little b's of oxygen as it also can cause them to regurgitate the contents of their stomachs in to the ferret. This in turn can then pass Lyme disease on to your fert! Good luck. G Quote Link to post
Guest Magwitch
I used to use Nouvan top but it was withdrawn and have used Frontline ever since the paragraph below is from a vets website, ive never had any problems using it. the reason he wants to see the ferret first is because he wants to charge a consultation fee blood sucking vets Fleas - Ferrets get fleas just like other mammals. If your pet has them, please use a flea product that is safe for cats, we recommend "Frontline". Do not use flea collars on ferrets. Remember to also treat the house and yard, as fleas spend most of their life off of your pet laying eggs all over the environment. Madcowz 0
We use these for tick removal: Link to tick removal web site They come in a pack of two, one big one small. Twist the tick and out it comes. Stops it leaving the head inside or spewing its guts inside the fert. To stop the fert wriggling we use Ferretone. /Mad Quote Link to post
