stubby 175
castration wont cure it, nowhere near the glands I have a castrated hob, that still stinks lovely I'd be harsh and say, if you cant stand the smell, stop keeping ferrets Quote Link to post
Guest bigredbusa
lol ive kept ferrets on and off for 25 years and the smell does not bother me , the wife the other hand .... lol only a question and i cant see the point of spending mega bucks on a operation, i spent the whole day emptying the shed , maybe in a bigger inclosure will help Quote Link to post
Guest Bigbob
They do that operation abroad but never heard of it done here try shampooing him a operation's bit drastic Quote Link to post
stubby 175
bigbob has a point, my missus, washed/bathed our big hob, and he smelt fine for a few days, maybe a regular bath either in the court, or kitchen sink will do the trick... if not get rid of the wife, problem solved Quote Link to post

Kay 3,709
Do you mean de scent the animal, if you do no vet will do it , the ferret uses its scent glands to ward of danger & its purely cosmetic if you ensure his beddings kept clean he shouldnt smell any worse than any other entire animal, castrating does reduce the smell a little but not totally Quote Link to post

Hi mate, I sympathise, I have two hobs, and both are pretty sharp smelling at the moment. They usually have the warm musty ferret smell, but just now they are pretty ripe, with acrid undertones, and a decided lack of hollyhocks whooshing up your nose ala Gilly Frazer. I think we have to tolerate it, I mean they tolerate us without complaint. The extra pungency really shifts the rabbits too, no doubt about who's lurking round the corner. take care mate ian. Malt 379
It's illegal to do it in Britain unless there's a medical problem, I think I read somewhere. Quote Link to post
