ratmogit 16
my mate just lost custody of his plummer- jack cross . hes into hunting rabbits with the dog but wants a good companion aswell that will follow him on the mountain bike . ive tried to persuade him to get a lurcher , but no go. he wants either a lakeland, plummer or welsh terrier . i want him to have something out of decent bloodlines , although it proboblley wont get earth work i think you get a better dog from good stock . hed go for a patterdale x lakeland aswell . if anyone can help point in the right direction id appreciate it . he needs a new girlfreind aswell but hed prefer a dog . ta marc Quote Link to post

Guest MOLLY
IMO, I think your pal is right. If he only wants a rabbiting dog, companion and a dog for biking, then he would be mad to get one out of good digging stock. A terrier slightly longer in the leg, like a welsh, lakie, beddy, plummer etc would probably suit him fine. There is no guarantee it still wont go to ground, but will be much more easily trained to NOT do so if it has not come from digging stock. Moll. Quote Link to post
alun1960 234
There is a litter of beddys due this weekend , up welshpool . Quote Link to post
minion 29
I wouldn't advise a Plummer. Not if he is going to be riding his bike near other dogs. Mine was a great wee dog and i loved her to bits but seh was a devil with other dogs. Just my opinion. Quote Link to post
oyama 27
Plummer, but not from a breeder from a proper working home, then it'll be fine. Quote Link to post

ratmogit 16
It might be handy if the terrier type your oppo procures is too big to get in the ground...then that will be one problem out of the way. You can soon overcook a short terrier by exercising it with a bicycle. hes looking for a pup , so he can ruin it himself his own way! an irish terrier could be an option . it may get some earth work . but he does prefer the rabbits and rats at the moment anyway . is anyone due some decent litters ? i want to ask again does the welsh terrier actually work ? hes seen some for 700 bucks - pet trade crap - who knows? young1982 1
When I first started looking into getting a working dog I wanted to get a Welsh Terrier, coming from Wales I thought it would be fitting that I own and worked one and them being a rare native breed it did appeal to me. After weeks of looking and asking around I came to the conclusion that know one works them any more, and on top of that our friends in the show scene have started to fu*ck then up so i decided to get a Lakeland instead when the time comes. It would be good if someone set about trying to bring them back into the working scene again, maybe introducing some working Lakeland blood to give them a jump start. Hope your mate finds whats he's looking for Quote Link to post
