YOU OFTEN FIND FELL COLLIES WORKING IN THE YORKSHIRE DALES OR THE LAKE DISTRICT OR ANYWHERE THAT THE TERRAIN IS HARD AND STEEP. IN PLACES LIKE THESE THE SHEEP ARE AS WILD AS THEY COME AND A SPECIAL TYPE OF SHEEPDOG IS REQUIRED TO WORK THEM, A DOG WITH BOTH BRAINS AND BOUNDLESS STAMINA IS NEEDED AS ITS NOT UNUSUAL FOR A GOOD FELL COLLIE TO RUN IN EXCESS OF FIFTY MILES A DAY MANY TIMES OUT OF SITE OF THE SHEPHERD. OVER SOME OF THE ROUGHEST COUNTRY IN ENGLAND. YOU DON T SEE TOO MANY OF THEM AT SHEEPDOG TRIALS AS THEY CAN BE A BIT STRONG ON THE SHEEP DUE TO THE KIND OF WORK THEY DO. THEY REALLY ARE QUITE A DOG . HOPE THIS HAS HELPED GOOD LUCK :toast:

a good reply given there mate, they are very good dogs , and if you can get hold of one they make for a good cross with a greyhound, i have two fell collie x greyhounds myself, they have bags of stamina. regards collie john.

I have a fell collie grey and she has all the attributes mentioned.

I can not wear her out, she's as keen as mustard often going through brambles that only a terrier would tackle.

One thing is she will hunt up on her own and often goes off out of sight for a bit too long, she young still so i'm working on keeping up closer. I think this must be the fell collie trait, she is a very good jumper too.

Hi Oldskool,

Thanks for your kind comments and inan too
