Just wondering how many people train their terriers with ferrets or people who don’t and is there any point in the future because of more ferret, polecat stoat and weasel population and soon they will be killing all of the vermin. So once again England will be using dogs to hunt them like we did many years ago? Discuss.

I posted this on the Trump thread. I get confused.

Terriers were called curs before they were called terriers ,hence the phrase to cur tail when you had to pay taxes on dogs except small dogs and to show this they cut the tails off them and the habit

What's there to discuss if someone uses a terrier for ferreting there going to break it to a ferret it's common sense is it not if you use  them for digging its little odds weather they kill a ferret or not....can't see boys keeping a yard of terriers to keep the stoat weasel polecat ferret population under check either

That’s what our dogs were bred for many years ago and for the wild car population.

I doubt the government will amend the hunting with dogs act to include any of the mustelids you’ve mentioned anytime soon

Yes maybe not anytime soon, but that’s what we bred our dogs from in England and also for the wild cat population.

Well most of the dogs we have today like the patterdales are bred for going underground but I’m talking years back before that. We still had terriers before Russell started working his well bred Russell. Which he bought he didn’t create the breed.

Terriers were first bred as general vermin dogs and maybe used underground on badger because you can eat him and wear his coat  i'd say  fox control  only came along with terriers as mankind settled and started to farm that bit more intensly and were used to protect livestock .Using terrier just for sport rather than a need to came  along as life and leasure time got easier in general for man kind,...
