Yes,. .Anastasia produced a better class of Deerhound for the original job, and some, were even passable at organised hare coursing,.. (although it was never their proper vocation).. Back in the

I was the judge and gave it “Champion Lurcher” , based solely on looks, condition, conformation and temperament. Its impossible to judge on working ability unless you have personally seen the dog

Like most others, there’s good and bad. They are very easy going and easy to live with. Of course there will be better rabbiting dogs, hare dogs, fox dogs, deer dogs, but I’ve found deer/greys ca

Deerhound greyhound always reminds me of reading Frank Sheardowns Working Longdogs, probably late teens

Working Deerhounds and lurchers and longdogs by Bill Doherty is a cracking read and a great informative book for anyone considering a deerhound lurcher.

That's the problem. How can you expect to get decent deerhound lurchers when nobody's working or coursing deerhounds

Back in the day,.. we used one of her line , straight over an Irish coursing Greyhound Dam,...the resulting progeny were Page Three stunners, absolutely beautiful,.. and more than adequate, for the Roe an Fallow Does.

However,.as a mere rabbiter,  I required a slightly smaller, more compact jukel...

I wanted to retain the fabled 'easy to live with ' temperament of the noble Deerhound, whilst bringing down the size.. It was a successful breeding project and in many ways, I wish that I had continued with it, alas, the call of the Sheepdog was just too strong,. and I went back to what I knew.

Whatever,.. we had some fabulous years with the Deerhound hybrids....👏🏼
