Remember seeing that pic in one of the booklets on lurchers i have of Vic with blue and a load of rabbits and hare's advertising the dog at stud and was tempted myself to get in touch to use him over one of my lurcher bitches back then.

That photo tempted me to get a pup out of Blue. But ,the luck of the draw, she was very poor.

I think he showed Blue had caught a 100 rabbits on the lamp and he was asking for competition to run against him.

Some other lads who had  Minshaw dogs ran them doubled up  on the lamp on hares and they wanted competitors too.

I always thought running dogs doubled up on the lamp was asking for serious accidents, but that was the way they did it. Few lurchermen would even run hares on the lamp these days even if it was legal, as its considered unsporting.  But back in the day sporting like behaviour didn't enter into it. They were after money .

Yes,. .Anastasia produced a better class of Deerhound for the original job, and some, were even passable at organised hare coursing,.. (although it was never their proper vocation).. Back in the

Didn't one or two of them soldiers stay out 30 year or something....like one of mchull dogs reeling a hare in...lol

I was the judge and gave it “Champion Lurcher” , based solely on looks, condition, conformation and temperament. Its impossible to judge on working ability unless you have personally seen the dog

The advantage of running the dogs doubled up is that they push each other harder. It's good for keeping dogs super fit imo it makes it slightly easier. You can catch alot more game aswell some times.

I've done it over the years.

On the lamp or daytime? Didn't they crash into each other? Genuine questions.

An afterthought. Minshaw wanted £300 for a pup. That was daft money in the eighties. Eventually we settled on £60.😅

Given how the pup turned out , I was robbed.😅

I don't want to start a new Minshaw thread, because they go on for hundreds of pages.😁.

But, despite my personal experience, I believe the strain did have exceptional stamina. I saw  Minshaw dogs run and I used the same game dealer as they did , so I saw what they were bringing in on an almost daily basis.

Imo, it came from lots of collie blood combined with a big barrel chest for heart room.

They all had a 'look' about them. They were not racy dogs by any stretch. So they were not busting a gut on every run and ending  up knackered. You don't need an exceptionally fast dog at night. Maybe on short grass and on lamp shy prey, but on rough terrain, you don't need bursts of high speed. They ran almost every night so were naturally fit .

I've read hound, pit bull, bedlington and God knows what else went into the mix.

For me they were primarily collie saturated, very fit  lurchers.

But I don't claim to be an authority.

I only dabbled in lurcherwork. Those guys did little else but run their dogs.

Incidentally, I was told Blue met his death in the teeth of a pit bull. Sad end for a legend.

On the lamp mate. Used to run doubled up on the rabbits some nights for a winner takes all the bag. Good bit of fun. Never had any problems with  accidents. I will say the dogs new each other from pups.
