I remember talking to a top deer lad one time and he asked how many deer I get; I said I’m lucky if I get into double figures, he said that’s not bad for a week ; I said that’s for a season ! LOL !

Im very realistic about my dogs capabilities and for years I kept a game book, very nice to look back on .

Cheers.

never thought of keeping a game book mate but can see how it’s good to look back on

Yes,. .Anastasia produced a better class of Deerhound for the original job, and some, were even passable at organised hare coursing,.. (although it was never their proper vocation).. Back in the

Didn't one or two of them soldiers stay out 30 year or something....like one of mchull dogs reeling a hare in...lol

I was the judge and gave it “Champion Lurcher” , based solely on looks, condition, conformation and temperament. Its impossible to judge on working ability unless you have personally seen the dog

I would love to see your dogs run mate. I aint got a runner at the moment, but I am probably going to get another one sometime soon.

Should I enter the mC HULL cup if I do.

I wished I'd kept a game and fish book. I remember Vic Minshaw showing me his ....complete with photos about 40 years back. Geez those lads killed some gear. They didn't work so they were at it every night all over the country. It would have been good evidence for the police lol.

As far as sheep are concerned I've always bollocked my dogs if they even look at sheep, no matter what age they are. Some dogs seem to know instinctively that they are not permitted  farm animals and some have to be constantly reminded. I had a big whippet that avoided sheep but always took a sneaky interest. She rioted one morning and pulled down  a sheep at 6 years old! I never trust a lurcher with sheep.

The more deer you do with a dog...the more chance you have of it taking a liking to mutton....had dogs that were bombproof for many a season, then one day out of the blue...they committed the cardinal Sin🙄..don't hurt end of every season and the summer months, walking and sitting amongst the stock, few lesson's just to reaffirm ...what's allowed and what's not👍

Training a lurcher to not chase deer is a bit like this.

You take a straight man into a room and have a couple of gorgeous women strip off in front of him.

When he gets an erection . Slap his manhood with a large truncheon.  Do this several times. Eventually he will think sod this and not become aroused.

However once his willy has healed and he is presented with a gorgeous female without a bloke whacking his cock with a truncheon he will still, definitely get an erection.

It's the same with lurchers. If a juicy roe breaks and the dog is far enough away from you he he will ignore the long lead training and scruffings and go for it.

I hope I have somehow made myself understood.

Yeh I'm glad he went to him as well....ar 10 week old I new he was a c**t whilst at my house...he was a f***ing character put a smile on my face every day....

I always used to exercise the dogs down a disused lane behind the motor....I used to take cabron in the motor to get him used to travelling....f**k me he was bouncing round the van jumping all over me screaming cos he wanted to be out running with the others....so out he went....4 f***ing miles every night....little f****r didn't bat an eye...lol

There was a couple in the litter that were really easy going I think me n mushroom didn't well 😂

It's full of roe up near where he runs, bet it's a right ball ache for him when all he's wanting to run is hare. Dogs tend to go for the biggest prize, it would no good if he's forever having to pull his dog off a roe.
