Deerhound greyhound

I think they are being romantic from the armchair, in reality I can imagine it being a pain in the arse when there's prying eyes everywhere during the daytime. One only has to look at some of those vids you shared on here, in the background you can see roe everywhere. In an ideal world the dog could pick and choose it's runs, in reality it's a choice of trying your best to break the dog to deer or end up with a headache when you are mooching or after you've slipped the dog. Lol

lol running across to dog walkers screaming on phones chasing you videoing you lol nothing romantic mate i can assure you lol

Yes,. .Anastasia produced a better class of Deerhound for the original job, and some, were even passable at organised hare coursing,.. (although it was never their proper vocation).. Back in the

Didn't one or two of them soldiers stay out 30 year or something....like one of mchull dogs reeling a hare in...lol

I was the judge and gave it “Champion Lurcher” , based solely on looks, condition, conformation and temperament. Its impossible to judge on working ability unless you have personally seen the dog

Does anyone find some dogs seem naturally adverse to domestic stock and some can never be trusted ?

Many years ago I had a deerhound type called Brin, he was a good dog on the roe. We were out one day and a calf ran out of hedge and Brin ran at it, got near and stopped and came back. He hadn’t been broken to cows but seemed to know instinctively.

This bitch I’ve got now is completely indifferent to my poultry at the allotment but takes feather when I’m out working her.

I try my best to break all my dogs to stock, but when I’m on invited land and there’s sheep about I’m on my guard, I’d hate for someone to lose their permission because my dog suddenly turned ! It can happen, I don’t think you can trust any dog 100% in some situations!

Cheers.

Yes!

My old lurcher was bombproof but would set off in a millisecond if something broke cover. Years ago a sheep came belting out of the thicket and before I could say no, he was up and after it. 1 second later he’d stopped and came trotting back showing his teeth in a submission smile. I never needed to reprimand him. He knew NOPE. 1 min later he was behind bugs bunny fully engaged.

I remember talking to a top deer lad one time and he asked how many deer I get; I said I’m lucky if I get into double figures, he said that’s not bad for a week ; I said that’s for a season ! LOL !

Im very realistic about my dogs capabilities and for years I kept a game book, very nice to look back on .

Cheers.
