I was the judge and gave it “Champion Lurcher” , based solely on looks, condition, conformation and temperament. Its impossible to judge on working ability unless you have personally seen the dog working. Lurcher Shows are just a bit of fun, support your local hunt, meeting up with mates, seeing dogs and having a craic in the summer. Anyone who doesn’t like them isn’t forced to attend ! LOL ! Chartpolski to me the only place to judge a lurcher is in the field to be honest with you thats for any type of running dog or terrier hound wasn't having a dig at you or what you picked out as you said you can only pick by what you can see...but sometimes these folks bred and keep dogs to spend the summer hunting a bag of dog food and a trophy at a show and bred out of dirt and people wonder why there's so much dirt around the country and yes your right the shows are for a bit of craic and fun over summer and yes I attend one or two but see really for what it is I'd rather a kid win or a dog that's done a bit not pot lickers that havnt done a hands turn lol 2 Quote Link to post

My bitch, which I can assure you is well worked , was runner up at all them, and every time was beaten by its half sister, that I can guarantee has never done a days work in its life; But that doesn’t bother me in the least; I don’t care what people do with their dogs, be it working, showing, racing, whatever, that’s their business, as long as the dogs are well fed, well kennelled etc. As for breeding rubbish, there’s plenty who’ve never been to a show but breed from untested, scatter bred dogs. The simple answer is to do your homework before taking on a pup or dog. Maybe try and get to this hunt shows, There will be plenty genuine working dogs, some from members off here, others with mates of mine who are coming up for it. We will have a good craic and not take it too seriously. Cheers. 1 Quote Link to post

I don't do anywhere near as much hunting has I used to and realise a bigger dog is harder to keep fit. Would they make a nice all-round edible game hunting dog Mine done everything you wanted them to do mate,I only put the whippet blood in to bring the size down. The pup I kept had its 1st roe at 11mths old,but they are know to be late matures and people who have had them, want a world beater at 12mths old thinking they mature like ya bullx and others. But like chats says you get good and bad in all breeds. 2 Quote Link to post
