Brown bear hunting in Romania 2025

For the first time after many years, we also have a spring season for brown bear in Romania. The government had to do something to reduce the number of human-bear conflicts due to a huge increase of deaths, injuries and agricultural damages after the hunting ban.

Hunting in Romania for a brown bear is not o problem of "IF" one could hunt his bear or not. It may be a problem of "How big" or "What kind of hunt". The density is simply unbelievable in many areas of the country... If you want to hunt a big bear in Romania but you are from a country where bear sighting is rare or impossible, it is better to know what is big and what is average or small. This was about the size. I will also say a few things about the method (and I may be subjective here)

Due to the technical challenges, most of the gamekeepers and outfitter will suggest you to hunt the bear from a high seat and the bear will baited there with corn, sweets or meat. They prefer this because they could select really well the bear size and is quite easy. A very old, big bear could raise some challenges even with this method because wisdom comes with age. However, for small, medium and medium+ sizes, the success rate is very high.  It is also possible to hunt bears at driven hunts, especially in autumn, but that is a different topic.

A male wild boar baited with corn is not the same story. It will be much more cautious and will flee at the first suspicious sound (even a stupid bird will make him flee). Also a different topic. The main idea is that I don't agree with this method and is something that I would not use. The entire experience could be resumed in the next picture...

Never say never, and I guess that is perfectly acceptable with problem bears. Sometime, a bear could do damages more frequently than others. Bellow is an example of such a bear from my area. He had severe tooth problems and did huge damages in pigs, goats, sheep and cows

For most people, bear hunting is something they do only once and I believe that it should be done properly. In this way, one will also have a warm memory, not only an impressive rug on his floor or on his wall. If anyone is interested for a once in a lifetime hunt (3-5 days of hunting on foot, stalking for the right bear in the wilderness of Carpathians), please contact me here or directly via email at directhuntingro@gmail.com

The costs are 2000E for organization fees (transport from airport and inside the hunting area, accommodation, food & drinks, insurance, invitation)+ the shooting fees. 

The shooting fees are varying depending on hunting area management but they can be summarized bellow:

1.Fixed price (3500E for a bear up to 350 CIC points, 5000E for anything above 350)
2.Variable price (3500E for a bear up to 350 CIC points, 5000E for 351-400, 5000E+80E/point above 400)
(I know, the variable price is very confusing for many people but it will take a while until a decades old mentality will be changed for gamekeepers....)

Continuing the hunting trip for a different species is always possible if success comes early.

Because is already April, scheduling a bear hunt for this spring is no longer possible (not enough time to prepare all the paper work, after 15th of April in some areas the fur is not nice anymore). I have 4 licenses available for autumn
