Stavross 16,323
Interesting this, I suppose the sub-culture I followed was the rave culture in the early to mid 90’s, the only footwear was air max ( and I still wear them) with Daniel Poole or Naf Naf jumpers, then moved on to clubbing, Ralph Lauren, Lacoste, Replay, Paul Smith, ( which is what I still wear now) I had a mate when I was going to raves who was out drinking sh*te lager, beating the sh*t out of people in his Samba’s and Stone Island, I bumped into him before Christmas and he’s still the same. Now there seem far fewer little groups, most round here ( including my nephews) are Northface, Nike TN’s and fake Canada Goose and the others look like they went to a 70’s charity shop and picked up their granny’s best slacks
gnasher16 30,535
Regards sub cultures im reliably informed that the streets of East London in the early 2000's was where the gritty genre of " Grime Culture " erupted......how embarrassing ! Im also told that " Roadmen " and " Broccoli Boys " appear to be the dominant groups amongst young lads at the moment .....whereas young women apparently tend to side with either your vegan/eco friendly/recycle as much as possible serious types......or your wannabe posh types who only ever say " oh reeeaallly " as a contribution to conversations.......or Essex girls even if not from Essex ! I certainly dont envy the younguns these days ! Edited March 6 by gnasher16
WILF 47,997
I always liked that phrase related to Mod culture: Clean living under difficult circumstances I think, certainly amongst me and my pals from very early teens onwards, that resonated……we identified with that because we all came from various weird home situations and didn’t have a pot to piss in…..but we didn’t want to be utter states. Hard to explain really, but it’s strange that it really never left us…..something uniquely British about that I always felt.
TRUEBRIT66 1,770
Music, Fashion and politics all had a huge part over the years in different cultures, thats probably why now there aren't any. Music is bland, boring or plain crap, fashion is bland and boring and talk to anyone under the age of 40 about politics and its effects on the nation and they just look straight through you. Most youngsters spend their life's in a virtual world tucked up in their bedrooms unless your part of some inner city gang who deep down dont have any real passion for anything, just a lust for violence and trying to survive in a shit world. I'm glad I caught the tale end of the Mod revival and loved the casual scene but the best of all of them for me was growing up and becoming a parent, best "culture" bar none. 3
