philpot 5,037 Posted Friday at 09:31 Report Share Posted Friday at 09:31 Well in a couple of days we will reach the official last day of winter although we have a very heavy frost this morning with a low of -2 degrees last night so perhaps we enter Spring with a thermal vest on. I have had a couple of sessions on the pigeon coming in to roost but not been out at night on the rabbits, I just have not felt like going out on cold nights whereas a few years ago I would be out on the rats and rabbits, I simply don't have the desire to leave the warmth of the cottage which I suspect that is perhaps something that comes with age. At the ripe old age of 73, I think I have become a summer shooter and this spreads over to me sea fishing, I am only 1.5miles from the sea but even though I can fish out of the back of the car, dark cold nights on the cod are losing their appeal. Is it just me or are some of you guys feel the same. On a brighter note, I was in my local rfd yesterday and a chap came in to recharge his Remmingtom rifle, bloody long gun to my way of thinking but he was saying that he was trying to shoot rabbits which were digging and scraping the field where his horses were kept but he was not so productive, I stepped in to perhaps help. He was using the scope which comes on the gun, utter crap with no mildots, no focus just cheap shit so I told him to throw it out and put on a scope with the things we need for hunting. Next was his night shooting method, a white light torch fitted under the air cylinder, needless to say the rabbits ran away normally before he got the cross hairs on them. I showed him what a NV system was and found a nitesite on ebay which would do the job for him. I do enjoy being able to guide someone through what to them is way over their heads and invited him to come to me an I would take him out to show him the ropes, I also had an invite to help him out on his horse fields. A happy man now. I have been thinking about changing my Wildcat .22 fac for a .25 BT version but as we are hoping to move house, I will wait until some spare cash becomes available as I am also wanting to treat myself to a new clay pigeon gun so we will have to see how that saga works out but nevertheless my eye is firmly sey on the new Beretta 688 o/u shotgun which has been recieving rave reviews on youtube from people who give fair and open reviews not from people who are sponsored by the company, in fact none of them are Beretta shooters which really does make me think they are suitably impressed by the gun. I have to ssay though I am gobsmacked at the price increase of my favoured cartridges, Eley Superbs, from £56 per 250 18 months ago to an all time high now of £90 for 250.........................WTF. I will start to tey out some other shells over the next few months and also reduce the cartridge weight from 28gr to 24gr which will help and the performance of modern 24gr shells is amazing and used in the olympics so obviously very capable. Well time to go to my doctors for my blood checks...............................................fecking ole fart !!!!!!!! Roll on better weather. Phil 1 Quote Link to post
