jukel123 8,733 Posted Wednesday at 21:09 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 21:09 Is autism on the increase? I know friends whose kids have been diagnosed with the problem to varying degrees. Lots of kids have noise cancelling headphones. There also seems to be a lot of kids who have ADHD. Is it a case of more diagnoses because of better knowledge or something about modern life which is causing it? I think a lot of people are 'on the spectrum'. Me included. It's just a matter of degree.

I'd say more likely the latter, and probably a result of our unhealthy lifestyles, could be anything really, chemicals, drugs, obesity, a combination of everything.

OCD is common too. Plus school refusal. Modern society is making our kids ill.

Very so, I bet many kids are also suffering from chronic stress, the results of constant social media pressures. We might be more privileged than we have ever been, but are humans really any happier?

It's just a matter of degree. As the father of a child who wears noise cancelling headphones , I couldn’t say yes or no to anything . I have two kids , both have idiosyncratic traits from the normal regular , existence . I think sadly that both my kids were cursed genetically in a perfect mish mash of me and my wife . When you have children who have issues such as an asd condition it’s extremely hard not to reflect on your own faults . For many years , I have been told I see the world in a different way than my friends , as in , I’ll go and do something that they would deem irrelevant and to me it’s the most important thing in the world . I can’t sit start a job until I have a perfectly clear work space , it drives me to distraction . My son also had to have all his toys away etc before he is perfectly happy to start aligning his work force for the day activities . autism isn’t a new thing , it’s just more widely supported and accepted . It still has the stigma of “that bad kid in the class “ or “5”the spacker who can’t act properly at the school play” but in all honestly , I wouldn’t change him for the world , life will be tough for my little man , he has the nature that most kids his age can’t deal with , he’s never had a birthday party , or an invite , never mind a friend . But he doesn’t need one . 16

We might be more privileged than we have ever been, but are humans really any happier? I didn't know the word stress existed when I was a kid. There wasn't any as far as I was concerned. Occasionally men get stressed out on here and start gibbering. Most of us are either old timers or middle aged. So the next day it's forgotten. But for kids, constant social media is their whole life and reality. It's a f****n menace for their mental health. Especially girls. Plumping their lips, breasts and backsides is as medieval as primitive people who put rings around their necks to extend their neck length or stretch their ears or lips to look " beautiful". It's sad. Far too much pressure on kids. And the magazines, catwalk and adverts implant the idea of the perfect body. Hey society! Leave those kids alone! As a species I think its different according to country, some places it feels good to be alive, you bounce out of bed every morning. As individuals it's far more complex, some have a glass half full, others half empty,I had a non-verbal autistic young bloke approach me in a store a few weeks back,he zipped my jacket right up,his carer said to me "Don't be alarmed",i wasn't,we are all wired up different,I gave him a fist-bump and a thumbs-up when they walked off,he smiled. 5
