I do miss bringing up a lurcher, entering it , mooching and lamping though. But time catches up.

The lack of rabbits also on my daily walks is probably another reason I have to be truthful to myself in having a dog that will not get the chance to use it's purpose in it's life and the amount of roe and hare's i see on daily relaxing walks would probably become a bit more lively even with a well bred whippet.

It’s nice to have a keen working dog they are great fun and characters. But unless you’re one of the few that can have some serious control over your dog. Some walks can be a bit of a pain. You’re constantly weighing up what if a fox pops out that hedge and goes across the school playing field. What about that road there. What about the 200 sheep in lamb in that field. In my area mine has to stay on a lead a lot. When we go see the daughter in Scotland the amount of deer and nosey sods is ridiculous. We could get in serious trouble. But yea all ways wanted a whippet lol

Get a big whippet mate...or a grew loads of fun onbthe hares and deer

There are some awesome whippets out there. If they look right and the parents work and or race then they probably are right

But...for me it's possible to have too much prey drive and my one is on the lead more than he'd like. At 22 inches with paper thin skin there's a few situations which would lead to a massive vets Bill. Be careful

I only corrected her once. She was eating something smelly and dead and carried on eating when I told her not to. I gave her scruff a shake and from that moment on she was completely in tune with me. She was also good on hares and roe in deep woodland. One more...she had a nose like a spaniel.Great wee warrior.

Must admit they do heal well if the vet is good.

Im sure vixen only had one litter, a couple went abroad and I’ve met the lads who got the others and judged them at whippet shows . There was a gamekeeper got a very nice brindle bitch which he was very pleased with.

Mally’s pal, Paul Sagar , wanted to place a saluki pup with me but he wanted to many clauses, including what it was mated with and when, what comps it was entered into, what matches it would have, etc.

I politely declined and told him he wanted a dog sitter and if I took a dog on it would be my decision what I did with it.

You might be able to correct me on this but in answer to the Bull in Sooty Sam, If i remember correctly Sooty Sam was gifted to MB, Wasn't there some argument over the amount of litters he was siring? by TW and LBG. i could be just talking out of my arse though Lol

lot of debate on whippet size, some say the big ones don't run like a true whippet. chap told me a whippet should be small, fast, agile etc, depends what ground you work, quarry you want, mines 19tts and only 23 pound, but I have no interest in fox or deer.

Ideally I’d want one as close to 20 ats as possible, every inch either way would be as unwanted as each other if that makes sense hah

some lines seem to breed true, bitches 19 dogs 20, I was told my pup would make 19 and he was spot on.

I honestly don’t know, mate, but looking at the pedigree of Sooty Sam there isn’t any bull, but pedigrees don’t always tell the truth. Some pedigree racing whippets were rumoured to have greyhound in them and the WRCA started dna testing when doubt arose.

To me, SS didn’t look like he had bull in him, but I remember my brother and I breeding a litter of non-ped whippets and the one I kept looked like a show winning pedigree whippet and the one my brother kept looked like a staffy !

You still get bully type throw backs in the non-peds quite regularly, but not so common, if at all, in the pedigrees, so i’d guess if SS had bull in him, and the amount of offspring he produced, id expect to see more bully types.

Just my opinion, of course.
