That blue bitch was full of scars by the time she was about 3, I remember her having a big L shaped tear off some rusty tin roofing sheets on some very rough ferreting permission i had that bordered a deer enclosure, Took her to a local vet, Chinese lady, She said she needed to give the bitch an anaesthetic before stitching her up, I disagreed, In the end she said she would try one stitch but if she showed any sign of pain or distress, Then she would administer an anaesthetic. The bitch just stood on the table and never moved or made a sound whilst she was stitched up. Cost me about £30 back then Lol. Her spine gave up in the end causing paralysis in her back legs aged about 7.

I had a whippet as a youngster but it wasn’t upto much due to fact we lived in middle of Glasgow, she tried tho an we was young so it was all experience for us. 
 About 15 years ago I was hard at the lamping, catching rabbits for game dealer, few lads off here used come through here couple times a week an we would lamp all night, my bitch took real ill an needed pts, I was gutted went lamping couple times without dog, to neck the bunnies an drop them in the back pack while lad holding lamp was runnin another, it’s how we done it. Was a lad with us from Halifax who bred whippets, still does. Anyways he tells me in the van he got an older bitch at home somebody sent back to him, 6 year old but had saw a lamp an a ferret a few times with him, I had a wheatejx on order at time to replace my ole bitch, but wheatenx had only just been lined an it was early in season. So next visit through he fetches this whippet, 19ats, an a lovely looking black bitch, she seemed fine with me from the off, so she come out with us, I give her 5 runs in one field an she caught 2, she was goosed then so a drink a recharge an a rub down an we waited in van for other lads to do there stuff. Was out ferreting with her the next morn, showing her to jump a long net an hold rabbit from other side. Few miles behind the quad with the kids most days an a bit ferreting on the mornings we hadn’t been lamping, lamped her 3 night a week after a couple a weeks of getting her fit an then she hit her stride, best night was 28 bunnies without a miss then I stopped her cos I needed her for the next trip, got to point she rarely missed a rabbit on lamp, caught few bigger things aswell an deffo had heart that made up for lack of size an ability haha I was quite gutted to give her back to the lad so he could breed her, but my wheatenx was ready by then aswell, I’d have another like her in a heart beat, I couldn’t find a fault, bearing in mind she was a whippet haha I only expected whippet things from her but she showed me whippets can do more than most think haha

The two bitches I had were out of Sooty Sam. My favourite one had a deep wound similar to the one you describe. 

I had to walk six miles back to the car with her occasionally losing big pools of blood. I tried carrying her but she wouldn't have it. She carried on hunting all the way  back to the car and jumped in the back without wincing. Got her back next morning stitched up like an old teddy bear and she behaved as though nothing had happened.

I only corrected her once. She was eating something smelly and dead and carried on eating when I told her not to. I gave her scruff a shake and from that moment on she was completely in tune with me. She was also good on hares and roe in deep woodland. One more...she had a nose like a spaniel.Great wee warrior.

Did you meet Sooty Sam? When I met him he had half his scalp missing from impaling himself on a hedge and getting an infection I think Mike said.

I wouldn't have said so, I think he came from show stuff or something? He wasn't bully looking in the flesh but some of Mike's other dogs were big solid built things, lord of the knight which was sire to my bitch was a beast.

I'm surprised he came out of show stock. Mike did keep pit bulls at one time, he told me he got himself in trouble with them. Not my thing. I heard from several sources his dogs had bull blood. But I could well be wrong.
