Rickshaw swami 4,191
Back close to Christmas I was hunting a swamp. When me and the terriers came across a dead yearling otter.Im not sure what could have killed it as otters are as mean as the devil. Any opinions on what could have done this?

Rickshaw swami 4,191
I found it at daylight. It was still limp. There is eagles in this area. The only alive animal I seen in the swamp that day was a dog otter.(assuming a dog based on size)He was about 500 yards from where I found the dead otter.Ive seen otters attack coons and snapping turtles.Wished I would have seen it to know for sure.No damage to the corpse except neck straight to spinal cord.Head is still attached.Just folded under. paulus 26
I assume otters kill like most Mustelid's with a bite to the back of the neck, So my guess is a dog otter who came across it in his territory.
jukel123 8,785
Am otter experience.... One idyllic summer's morning just at dawn I got down to my favourite salmon pool. A female otter and two cubs maybe twelve weeks old were feeding in the pool. I froze and then enjoyed watching them diving and resurfacing, cursed them for ruining 'my' pool ( salmon are seriously spooked by otters) and walked on to the next pool. As soon as they saw me the mother gave a warning whistle and dived out of sight. One of the cubs became confused, saw my movement ,climbed onto the bank and followed me maybe 20 yards mistaking me for its mum.( I'm an oily looking b*****d) Eventually I ran at it and scared it back to the direction of its mother. Lovely morning, cracking, unforgettable moment. Edited February 17 by jukel123
