Yes, but what does the decline show us? 55% is not fact, the true figure could be higher, or lower. The figures are different depending on the account you read. I have just read a news report citing that researchers a decade ago found that about 60% of births were from cousin marriages, a decade later it had dropped to 46%. Fewer cousins marrying in Bradford's Pakistani community WWW.BBC.CO.UK Cousin marriage has dropped among the city's Pakistani community - with a few possible reasons. Fewer cousins marrying in Brad Pakistani community True 55% mightn’t be the true figure,it’s very easy to get fake paperwork in Pakistan, ban first cousin marriages here and it’s money that talks there not a British law,Peshawar-Heathrow on PIA.I know there’s a higher than average birth defect stat amongst Pakistani couples here due to inbred marriages.

Yep, which means we should outlaw cousin marriages. They're not only disgusting, they are a burden on society.

I think they should be banned, but I am sure the Pakistani community in the UK would be most vociferous in defence of the practice.

Tough shit, if they don't like it they can move somewhere more accomodating. Has Reform made a pledge on this?
Goly 1,773
I'm sure the Travelling community will be outraged at the talk of outlawing first cousin marriage as well.

How many on here would be comfortable at a Muslim burning the bible on the street, we'd all be calling for his head. I can recall famous celebrities calling for Sinead O'Connor's head when she tore the picture up of the Pope, Joe Pesci being one. The picture that Sinead O'Conner tore up had hung on a wall in her childhood home. Her mother was a devout Catholic, that photograph of the Pope was a religious icon in their house. After the death of her mother the photograph was the only thing that Sinead took from the house with the express intention of destroying it. It travelled with her for years. The video for Nothing Compares, the tears falling down her cheek was not scripted or rehearsed, she was singing to her mother. Maybe she's (was) crazy, or maybe ain't (wasn't)?

I thought first cousin marriage's in the UK were against the law. How are they being allowed? Surely to be legally married in the UK you have jump through the same hoops, whether Pakistani, British or whatever. It should be picked up and stopped.

No, it's perfectly legal, which is crazy given the health implications that could bring if they were to have children.

She was a troubled woman, but my point is millions detested her for that display, Joe Pesci remarked that if he was there he'd have given her a slap.
