Car - Family and Dogs

Recommended Posts

If in doubt ask The Hunting Life.

I'm thinking about changing my car and looking at something that will have 5 seats, suitable for a family car and good boot space for the dogs.

I wouldn't have use for a big jeep or 4x4 and was thinking of an estate or maybe a 5 seater van type with windows like a Peugeot Tepee or Horizon. VW and Ford do a similar type of van/car as well.

Are the suzuki Jimmy Amy good.

I'm in Ireland so may not have the same choice as the UK.

Any recommendations?

Anyone ever bring a car in from Northern Ireland or the UK, does that give a few more options.

Thanks

I've a Skoda superb 4x4 , went to a dealer for the first time ever as couldn't find anything, went for a Passat all road but it had gone so got this superb, it's one of largest estates it's economical especially as previous motor was a guzzling XC90 . I say pick a few models and find the best example for your budget. And prey to the car gods you don't get pig

Jimmy would be to small as a family car imo ..

My choice would be one from the VAG group of cars. Depending on the money you want to spend . A VW Tiguan are a good size family car any VAG estate , most will hit 200 plus thousand miles if looked after .

I have a skoda fabia 1.9 estate it's my 3rd one all been good cars big boot and good mpg

Wife has a vw touran 2.0tdi that has a massive boot we have had it 5 years now and it has 150k on the clock but still pulls well and taken us on loads of holidays etc , we looked at changing it for something newer ( wife wants a yeti ) but you get a lot of car for your money with a touran so probably get another

I had a Tiguan a few years back, I put 120k on it and it never missed a beat, I think in the 5 years I had it I only serviced it, put tyres on it and one front spring

if I was going estate I think I’d go Skoda or Audi ( same car )

I was wanting to get the missus a touran when she needed a newer car but she wanted another golf .. I'm using her old golf it's a 2007 1.9tdi it's had a bit of welding done to it , a fuelpump and a camshaft on its time but at near 195 thousand miles I don't think that's bad lol

I’m a big bloke. Was used to the big 4x4’s. Ended up with the Honda CRV and have never looked back. Very comfortable with loads of boot space so the dog doesn’t struggle. Very economical and hasn’t had a spanner on it. I would highly recommend. Jok.

She had a golf gt tdi before the touran but then we had my little lad and couldn't get the push chair and shopping in ,

If you take the seats out the back only a few clips you have your self a caddy van , think hers is the match sport or something so has alloys and tinted glass etc

Agree with Jok on the crv tons of boot space excellent mpg , think the wife’s and daughters are 2.2 diesel, permanent 4wd as with any car look for low mileage, check mot history see what it’s had done to it : try get something with a full mot and no advisories , good luck

I’d go for a vag group car there all pretty much the same car underneath I had a Passat high line as a spare vehicle give £400 for off my old man with 60k on the clock and full service history I put some miles on it was cheap motoring I had it a few years by far the one of the comfiest motors to drive plenty of space to chuck shit in the back of plus kids and dogs I ended up selling it for £500 when I’d finished with it only reason I sold it was because the insurance quote cam in and it was more than my Audi s3 and I couldn’t get it cheaper still to this day I can’t make out why a Passat 1.9 tdi 110 bhp family waggon cost more to insure than a 265bhp Audi s3 think your more likely to have a crash in a s3 than a Passat

It's not all perfect with VAG group, I've had plenty of problems with my Passat which was a bit of a surprise, perhaps just bad luck.

Get bad ones in all makes , I'd say the best I've had were vags , worst I've had/known were fords , nissan and anything french lol

Funnily enough I've had two fords and both were reliable. It wouldn't deter me from getting another car from VAG group.
