chartpolski 24,383
If you don’t want Greyhound Racing to go the way of coursing, please sign this petition; Petition: Introduce a Statutory Levy on Bookmakers to Fund Greyhound Welfare PETITION.PARLIAMENT.UK We call on the UK Government to introduce a statutory levy on bookmakers to secure reliable funding... I was talking to people who have started this petition and it seems that they are worried about the UK Labour Government following the Wales Labour Government in trying to ban greyhound racing on “animal welfare” issues. This petition is for Bookmakers to pay a levy on the profits of betting on greyhounds and be put towards rehoming retired greyhounds, etc. Cheers.

Camois was only a training track and had the odd whippet open last time I was there, but I think it’s now closed down. If you want to go to Brough Park, and it’s still going, PM me and I’ll have a night there with you and the lad . Cheers.
jukel123 8,543
Pretty sure Sunderland track still operates. With so few tracks left, you'd think the number of retired greyhounds could be rehomed. Every second dog owner is keen to tell you their dog is a rescue. Seems like the British public is on a mission to get brownie points for rescuing dogs or becoming a vegan. Rather than adopting Spanish galgos or Romanian semi feral Street dogs the moral crusaders should put our own greyhounds first. I was happy to re_ home a laid back, graceful greyhound. But the boss woman insisted on a whippet. Edited February 1 by jukel123

jukel123 8,543
There's lads local to me who race at both tracks. All local tracks have closed. A bloke I know recently had a litter from his brood bitch. He works on the roads, so he's not exactly rich. He told me the pups were for sale, two grand each. I thought he was bullshitting me. But I looked on Greyhound Data and there they were. He sold them in a fortnight. So there's still pockets of interest and people willing to pay for a lot for their hobby. jukel123 8,543
It would be great to gather together all the scams and stories surrounding the tracks. My favourite concerns a bloke who had a really tall greyhound. It was common knowledge that this dog could really motor but the owner was keeping it back until it reached really good odds. So that night finally came, and a split second before the start of the race the owner and his mates all placed big money simultaneously. Sure enough, the dog trapped like lightning and was pissing the race by 4 lengths or more. The bookies were in for a hiding until a little whippet suddenly "broke free" from a spectator and interfered with the race. The tannoy announced " void race". Clever buggers bookies. I can still remember the hissy fitting the owner made. Threats of hidings and murder. The bookies were smug. Edited February 1 by jukel123
