My pal and I bought this bitch off the Pikies on Newcastle Town Moor, mid 70’s. They said it was a “staghound” but it was probably deer/grey. One of the best dogs I’ve ever seen , and the on

Every man and his dog hammered it, dales rabbit numbers will never recover most places

I think a few hammered it for bragging rights for big numbers especially ferretting that I found in some areas nearly 30 years ago as easy as shelling peas to get big numbers ferretting with Warren's with no cover around them and no deep digs when the ferrets killed inn. Best sport i ever had up there on a few different spots was bolting rabbits for Harris hawk's and Gos Hawk's even though the numbers were not as high the sport was better.

I could never understand the mentality of wiping places out up in the Dales as it wernt as if the rabbits were hammering cerial crops or undermining railway banks even though i went up there in the past to get as many rabbits as I could and that was down to making a few bob when times were tough.

They are undermining the Wensleydale rail, it’s just a little touristy steam train but they are doing it. It’s the farmers and obviously the lads hunting them that’s ruining it through greed an fear, the farmers want them gone to stop everybody coming here to look for them but leaving with quad bikes an tractors, an the lads who have got the permission are happy to do it through greed an obviously it’s summat they enjoy doing, I really enjoy rabbiting whether it be taking a half decent bag on lamp or stood about on a frozen morning feeling the ground rumbling under ye feet, but purely cos a the decline in numbers in past 22 years iv been here, I don’t touch them unless I need a couple for ferret food or it’s a paying job, saying that tho I’d never dream of telling my kids to stay away from them, they can fill tjere boots haha

I know the big numbers rabbiting men from around me got their foothold in the Dales years ago due to a lad from Rotherham getting a keeper's job at Grassington and had bags of 200 from some parts though i believe their was a team of them. Even though I used to enjoy a bit of ferretting with the dogs and nets i preferred lamping a few rabbits tbh.

Ground rumbling under your feet. It's not Curse of the were - rabbit 🤣🤣🤣. Ffs Rumbling. Haha. You hear odd thud when rabbits are indicating to each other there's danger. But not to the extent that the ground starts to rumble. But your right about guys just taking what they want too in numbers. That's because they don't want to kill the sport desecrating all numbers that they won't be able to go back. But farmers want them gone. You can't pick an choose. Otherwise somebody else will come along an take over that can do the job right.

First time i went up the Dale's and after having to compose myself with a drink of coffee out of my flask as the ground was alive with rabbits just as it was getting light set about netting a decent sized warren up with another mate as i had counted at least 15 rabbit's drop in we entered two ferrets in from each end and within minutes it was like being stood on a rickity railway platform the rumbling under our feet in this very shallow Warren. 😂

Trust me,when you're dropping 8/10 ferrets to ground, and your getting 50/70 rabbits out of 1 warren ,couple of hundred in a day....the ground rumbles alright👍

Took us 2 days to clear this one bank....20150927_110540.jpg.0c7026d9e8518e102dbb1eae16ddd094.jpg20150927_110559.jpg.7b05f6e67acce9f8b1fe5ccb5810978f.jpg20150927_110546.jpg.7eb13b6161fb8a6777f8487ca5678203.jpg20150927_110619.jpg.e354a902354f7c08cbdb19aaeca702f4.jpg

I've been a few times ferret with a lad that was on here up towards scothcorner all the way up the A64 an dales. Had big numbers an you here the odd thud not rumbling danny that's far fetched mate. They don't all just shoot out at once in a line. Your just sweeting  the rumbling comment because you know this chap. The ground doesn't rumble mate.
