Wolfdog91 7,291
One of my odd lil hobbies is cruising though pawn shops. Usually don't buy a ton really it's just you always seem to find some interesting stuff in these places. Neat old tool, good guns, bows ,old fishing gear , electronics ect.. Anyhow was waiting for my wife to get off work so she could pick me up from dropping of my work rental so popped in in my regular one just look around and annoy everyone. After a bout three hours this are the lil odds and ends I thought where neat. First off ,a bolt action 16ga internal mag shotty. Made by J C Higgins and they only wanted $200 for it Actually was still really smooth action wise, cam up and into my shoulder pretty nice as well. And since I have a thing for odd ball calibers and fire arms I was really thinking of it... Buuut not much of a shot gun guy so decided against it. They had another in .20 ga that was a savage bolt gun but....eeegh dint have the feel and was $100 more ..... I mean I have a .410 bolt gun already....might start collecting till I get the whole bore range Next up was this guy. Ole penn 309 set up. Seems like a all fiberglass seal, short fairly stiff. Crazy thing is instead of actual fishing line it was Mason twine . Thought it was goofy but remembered seeing a lot of these set up around older folks houses. They type deals where used for feeding people not really sport fishing. Know my grand dad on my Ms side had a few ribs like this. Shorter stout heavy mono. Someone more like you see for offshore use . There whole deal was they'd find areas along the river where they think there should be some big fish ( flathead catfish mainly apparently there better watching them the blues but more meat and just bigger then channel cat) and toss these deals in and they wanted that fish out and on the bank regardless. Know Mom said he'd be gone for a few days at a time fishing like this to fill the freezer. For the $19 they wanted I honestly was thinking about getting it just to hang up in the house 8
Wolfdog91 7,291
Last thing that where just goofy more then anything where these torches.....not sure I've ever seen someone purposely do this to a torch...but someone I talked to said these where probably jeweler's torches of some kind and they do this to help them hang better in storage....I think it's just an artist being all...well artsy but that's just me lol And outta all that just ended up picking up a lil $50 scope. Need a floater and honestly it didn't look bad. I also kinda like buying cheap gear just to see how much it takes to break stuff lol.funny thing is this cheap stuff has actually gotten decent in the last ten years . Like seriously a $50 scope 12 years ago I remember was bad and one before that was just but man now....not bad at all...as long as your not someone who requires German high quality glass I guess. jukel123 8,481
I can remember my dad having a bolt action .22 rifle. I don't think you even needed a firearms licence back in the 50s. He used to take off on a weekend on a motor bike, and come back Sunday day with all sorts: moorhens, coots,( quite tasty) hare, rabbit and anything else he could come across, like farmers hens and ducks. Once he came back with a sheep lol. He would sell some and we would eat some. He was a skilled snarer of rabbits and hares and general survivor. I remember one Christmas we were flat broke. Christmas Eve, I was 5., I heard a commotion and got up hoping I would spy Santa. It wasn't Santa it was my dad with a very dead pet goose which he'd claimed from the local park. It tasted pretty tough as it happens but it also had the sweet taste of forbidden fruit. When I went back to school after the holidays I can remember the teacher telling us what a terrible thing the local pet goose had mysteriously disappeared and what a twat the thief was. I almost piped up and said don't talk about my dad like that. But I decided, even at that age that, it was a trap to make one of us spill the beans, so I nodded in agreement with the rest of the class Lol. Your posts are interesting Wolfie but it makes me realise how little we've got in this country in terms of freedom. Its sad really, we just put up with every kick in the nutsack they give us. 7
