Why does a pup need 2 innoculations at the vets, yet if I buy jabs outwith the vet, I'm told that 1 innoculation is fine at 10 weeks and will cover the same range of viruses?

I can`t tell you any more than i know of really and that aint much alot of people have them jabbed twice but alot also do them at 10 weeks just the once and have no upset as for 3 times i dont know about that never heard of it but jake will explain i`m sure

WHOT I UDER STAND IS THAT A PUP CAN BE JAB FROM SIX WEEKS OLD BUT THEN NEEDS JABING EVERY TWO WEEKS THIS IS ONLY SERTAIN JABS SOME ARE FROM EIGHT WEEKS ONWARDS BUT THEY MUST BE JAB MORE THAN ONCE TO BUILD THE DOGS AMMUNE SYSTEM UP HOPE THIS HELPS YOU IF YOU NEED ANY JABS PM

I was told many moons ago that the jab works 95%of the time on the first jab ,,,but its cheaper to have the second jab than it is for a blood test to see if the first jab worked ,,,if you follow me

Dont wish to sound a knowall but -pups do not need jabbing until they are 8weeks old.Up until this time they are covered by the bitches antibodies ,passed to the pups from the bitches colostrum[first milk available to pups].This colostrum contains antibodies against all the diseases the bitch has been in contact with.At 8 weeks the antibodies passed to the pup by the bitch are sufficiently weekened to allow us to jab the youngster with the 3 main diseases in this country, namely- parvo-virus,kennel cough and leptospirosis[wiels disease].Jab a pup any younger than 8weeks and the antibodies from the bitch cancel it out.Another jab at 10 weeks contains the antibodies for-distemper,hardpad ,canicola fever as well as a further back up for lepto and parvo.Jabs can be bought from various out lets but I think its best done by a vet as there is a shelf life on them and you cant always be sure theve been stored properly

Hi Stevie dont know why they need 2 jags but the second jab they give them is a repeat of the first though .

Awright guys, here's what I can gather from various sources and I think there is a variety of answers here. Initially the pup should be jabbed at 8 weeks then 10 weeks.

My local vets use a vaccine against Parvo, Distemper, hepatitis and canine flu.

The second jab is against Lepto ONLY, but this can vary (as in above posts).

 

Basically this means when you buy a vaccine from someone, you need to check that what it covers, seems to me that a pup given a single vaccine is likely to NOT be covered for Lepto.

 

I've just found out that there is a homeopathic treatment for all of the above viruses which involves giving pups very small tablets from about 2 weeks old. This method of protection has been varified by the Vets ruling body as being an acceptable alternative to vaccinations. It cost about a fiver for enough tablets to do a whole litter!!

I'm waiting for an email address which I should have by tonight and I'll pass on the info if anyone wants it. Mate of mine is treating a litter of pups as we speak.

Hope this helps-The vaccine given actually varies from county to county,according to the local likely hood of any particular disease or virus which is prevallent in the area.Parvo distemper and lepto are a standard vaccine but anything else varies.You are right in saying a pup needs 2 lepto jabs .This is straight from my local vet.

have three pups coming soon.

seems to be a good thing to start with tabs at an early age.

have not heard of this type.

Right then, the tablets in question are called NOSODES, the site information I have is as follows, I've only had a quick look but it's worth reading. Haven't looked closely enough to see if there's a supplier of said tablets listed, but should know soon. www.holisticanimal.com . Let me know what you think.
