Bush Rummager 4,763
I found this really interesting so thought others on here might do too. Old mapping from the mid to late 1800's with a handy slider which overlays current up to date maps. Handy search function to enter a place name or put a postcode in. Great to see how things have changed over the years!! I can't keep off it! Georeferenced Maps viewer - Map images - National Library of Scotland MAPS.NLS.UK
mushroom 13,184
Good do that mate Crazy how surrounding places, rivers, woods etc still have the same names 300-500 years later.
Arry 22,196
I often research old maps to help with the metal detecting. Handy to seem where hedges once were. Cheers Arry

Cheers Arry Lidar is great for that, trouble is a lot of the country is blanked out, i presume because they are areas of high interest.

Lidar is very good try different sites. I did try one that had lots of blanked out bit. Also can be very slow to load the maps and not the best to navigate. But very interesting I end up going all over the county. Cheers Arry

On one of my permissions theres supposed to be a treasure in the woods. Apparently the tail goes that a group of men got hold of a chap brought him up the river in a boat to where its supposed to be hidden. he wouldn't tell them where it was so the hung him from a tree and the place has his name to this day. I have had several goes there but no luck so far. Thought I has a promising signal one day, only to dig up a ammo box with two bottles of wine in it. Thats still my strangest find so far. I did post pictures in the Metal Detecting Guys tread. The way I look at it they might have hung him there but doesn't mean the treasure is there. Still reckon I'll be back for a couple more try. Cheers Arry 2

Cheers Arry I love stories like that Arry, you never know.Years ago I knew a geologist from the Philippines he worked for the DENR and invited me to check out caves on an island called siquijor along with a few of his colleagues.Theres always been legends and rumours in the PI about yamashitas gold, often said to be hidden in caves,a huge hoard of tons of gold.Long story short we found a coffin in a cave, this was it riches beyond the dreams of avarice, popped it open and found a pile of bones.I think I put a pic up on here of the coffin.
