Ethan gunn 1
Hi, I have 5 jills and a hob all living together 3 of the jills are 4, the other 2 Jill’s and the hob are last years litter, around 7 months old. I’m thinking about getting the hob vasectomised so hopefully he can live with them all year round and bring them out of season as he’s not aggressive with them so far. My question is, is it best to get the hob vasectomised now so it gives him a few months to recover before the Jill’s come into season or is he still too young? Cheers Quote Link to post
neil b 2,354
The sooner the better mate the hob needs a good 6/8 weeks away from the hills before he’s infertile, if its possible just put him over one jill first to check the op has worked, I had the litter brother done last season, he went over 3 sisters and his mother, the op hadn’t worked and I ended up with 4 litters of kits 2 Quote Link to post

The one 8,496
You have to wait till his nuts drop to get him snipped , then he has to stay away from the jills for a set period till his revivor is empty then tried on one jill to see if the operations worked it all takes time 1 Quote Link to post

Luckee legs 483
All good points above on minimum age, post op gap and trialling hob first. I use a vasectomised hob and typically have five to eight ferrets which are in a group most of the year. The one pain in the arse with v hobs is they behave exactly as fully intact hobs so from late winter to early summer they can be aggressive to castrated hobs. Second pain in the arse is they will lose the urge at some point so it's a treadmill of getting the next done and ready in time. I find it's essential to have an additional cage which separates the v hob. Actually works ok as he can then serve one jill at a time and you know it's done. 2 Quote Link to post
